I've been invited to Mexico for a friend's bday. They're paying for our rooms.
If I go on a Saturday and return on Tuesday, tickets are $345 and the flights are shorter (1 stop vs 2.) This is what I had mentally budgeted.
If I go on a Thursday and return on Tuesday, tickets are $424 but I get in Thursday afternoon so I get all of Friday and Saturday in Mexico. So more time, but also above budget.
WWYD? $75 isn't the end of the world but I don't usually spend much on tickets and paid for a ticket in years. Last trip was miles.
I have a *really* hard time spending money on myself. I told myself I was being ridiculous.
I wish I could not use a travel agent as even AAA is charging me a fee but I can't seem to get the flights booked online because there's more than one airline. If I could, the difference would be $40.

I've been able to book itineraries on multiple airlines using Travelocity or Expedia or sometching like that before. If it will give those as an option.
I will try those sites. I found the itineraries on the google flight search.

I tend to use Kayak if I am searching multiple websites for fares. I do book a lot with Cheaptickets because I've used them for years and find it easy to deal with them. I like their interface for choosing seats when I book and also it's easy for me to remember where my reservation is online. I tend to use SeatGuru at the time that I book to check where my seat will be on the plane. (Obviously, if you're flying something like Southwest, this doesn't matter as much).
Anyway, Kayak is what I use if I want to metafilter a bunch of different types of fares.
So within an hour or so of posting this message, a big part of my life went to shit. I booked the shorter trip with insurance because I don't know if I'll actually be able to go at all.

Thank you to all who encouraged me to take the time! I'm not very good at doing things like that for myself so it was a big struggle. AND, due to the recs I think of TR, I found a ticket for the same price as the Sat-Tues but it went from Wed-Tues! argh... Next time.
