Probably a stupid question but changing name

I got all the papers back for the divorce from the court. Inside was a certificate of dissolution. Can I use that to change my name on the drivers license or do I have to have a certified copy? I plan on getting the certified due to needing it for work and social security but wasn't sure if that would pass for the license.

You'll need the official divorce certificate with the state seal. I had to order mine.

I don't know about your state but in VA you had to get a separate court order to change your name back. My lawyer filed for this at the same time as the divorce, but they were different papers and I had to take the one with the seal anywhere I wanted my name changed.

Yes also what verycontrary247 said. Although mine was all part of the paperwork in my state. But my lawyer had to include in it if I wanted to change my name and then that info was included on the divorce certificate.

Has anyone when back to their former name instead of their maiden name? I was married before and have 2 kids from that marriage plus I was single for 5 years. Everything since I was 18 is in my former name until I married in 2006. Where I live now no one has that name except for my kids and I want to go back to it. My current name is very distinct and I am changing it even though we have a child. I always get asked do you know one of the other 6 people with that name and I hate it.

Mine was in the paperwork I filed and the judge signed off on. I went to the court house and got the certified copy. Thanks again for the help!
