Am I alone in thinking this is absurd? Recordings of 9/11 and cheerleaders?
Very, very weird. BUT, I will say that I think what must have happened is that, since the anniversary fell on a Friday (football game day), and a lot of schools were having their first home game, the schools couldn't possibly (and this is the part that I find most offensive) cancel their pep rallies (I mean, the horror), but they felt like they should do something to acknowledge the worst day in our history. Other than not holding a football pep rally.
And if you absolutely MUST hold the pep rally, this is what moments of silence are for.
Am I alone in thinking this is absurd? Recordings of 9/11 and cheerleaders?
My local college had their first home game yesterday. A local bar sent out a post card that H threw away before I could get a picture of it, or else I would share it with you. Talk about crass. "Friday, September 11, 2015... $3 Purple Hooters!"
Somehow, the drink special seems more honest for some reason. They aren't making up some weird drink--just saying the date and then, yeah Friday--still having drink specials!

Holy shit. I want to pistol whip their coach. What were they thinking including the calls/news clips in that? Everything else would have been crowd-pleasing enough, like the song and the flag and USA.

Our university had their first home game yesterday. Instead of the normal moment of silence, they brought out police, firefighters and EMS from our local community and had a moment to honor all first responders.
There's a ton of things this high school could have done that don't include this cheerleading bullshit.
Not only shocking in it's use of the recordings, fucking depressing as hell. I watched that yesterday with my mouth hanging open, trying to figure out what my response was supposed to be.

I don't know what it was, but I watched a very interesting 9-11 special today. (I taped a few hours from the History Channel.) Did you know that there was a Marriott between the two towers? 14 people escaped that day because they were lucky enough to be in a "shoebox" portion that had been re-fortified with steel after the initial WTC attack in 1993.
It was totally fascinating and showed the inside of the World Trade Center prior to the attacks, like the lobby, Windows on the World, etc. Very well worth seeing. It was called Hotel Ground Zero.
A lawyer who was staying at the Marriott was able to attend his daughter's wedding after 9-11 due to a firefighter saving his life. The firefighter attended the wedding, and the lawyer gave a very touching toast to him.
One weird thing is that a lady was interviewed saying she wasn't fond of Windows on the World that final Monday night because of the bad service. Holy irrelevant detail!!! (My response was, "well, honey, a few of them are probably not around anymore to render the service you felt the need to put down in a 9-11 special." How dumb.)
I was thinking how weird you would feel in the audience. Do you clap? People are hooting and hollering (the moves were impressive) but then the VoiceOver part. Weird.
Since 2002? You'd think they'd have it down better and it wouldn't be so pathetic. Yeah yeah, different girls. But still. It was really sloppy and not good.

Completely agree and somehow that makes this steaming pile even more insulting.
I could understand the drill team doing a tribute to this song as a 9/11 tribute. But it would likely include ballet moves and would be very somber. Not a cheer.
I have had so many people on my FB feed share this. I am considering deactivating and not talking to any of those people again. Unfortunately, they're mostly DH's family so I can't really do that.
The recordings are the worst part of it for me. If they had just done a patriotic routine I would have no problem with that.
When the music started, and they initially just stood there, I thought that was going to be the whole routine, them just standing there, heads bowed, waiting. But then that didn't happen.
