Cat Bite. How long would you wait...

On Monday my dogs had my neighbors cat cornered in our backyard. While trying to restrain one of my dogs the cat obviously scared attacked my hand when I reached down. I called my husband to come home so he could take me to the ER. I received a tetanus shot and a prescription for Augmentin for 10 days. I was told to keep the wounds covered while at work and to wash with anti bacterial soap. I have been doing that since it happened. My hand was swollen and red until yesterday. Overall the pain is better but it still hurts to move my thumb(There is no bite on my thumb.) I am getting worried because the numbness in the top of my hand and thumb is not going away! I have 2 punctures and a cut from pulling my hand away. They would not stitch the wounds because they need to drain.

When would you see the doctor again? My husband sais to wait until I finish the anti biotics.

Cat bites are so rough- I'm sorry! I would give it a few more days (obviously, if things don't get worse), puncture wounds on a hand take some time to heal completely. So many nerves! The last time I took a bite to the hand (dog, not cat, thankfully), I still had pain in the finger that took the worst of it two weeks out. I remember thinking that was SO long- but, it was much better after a few more days.

Thanks! When it first happened the pain was insanely bad. I was bit by a dog years ago on the top of my foot and it didn't hurt nearly as bad. I will give it a few more days before calling a specialist. I hate this weird feeling!

I'd at least call the DR and maybe send a pic if you can. My mom just had a bad cat bite and the DR was adamant about staying in touch if the swelling and redness didn't go down. She was put on the same rX as you but also got a huge shot of antibiotics in the booty.

Thanks! Tomorrow is 2 weeks since it happened. The puncture on top of my hand has closed up but there is a bump and the area around it is still numb. My thumb is still numb and hurts. The other 2 spots have closed up as well. I am following up with my main doctor to see what he thinks. I am just so frustrated with the pain in my thumb!
