Tonight ABC is premiering a new “mature version” of the Muppets that reports say will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs to “interspecies relationships” with no subject being off limits. It sounds to me like the whole show should be off limits! Hollywood seems to be in a frenzy to see what new moral low they can reach in their programming. Their agenda is to promote sin to a younger and younger audience. I applaud the group One Million Moms for speaking out against this and urging parents to call on ABC to take it off the air. The Bible says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” That goes for Kermit the Frog as well!
Franklin ... you know they're made of felt, right?

One Million Moms Group Slams New Muppets Show as ‘Perverted’
The family values group wants ABC to cancel the show, which debuts Tuesday .
While many nostalgic Americans are looking forward to the return of the Muppets to network television on Tuesday, one group is less than thrilled, deriding the new, more adult-themed show featuring the beloved 1970’s felt puppets as “perverted” and calling on ABC to can the program: the pro-family One Million Moms.
In the run-up to the show’s premiere, ABC’s promotional campaign has focused on Kermit and Miss Piggy’s alleged breakup and subsequent rebound relationships, the porcine star’s promiscuity, Fozzie Bear’s relationship with a woman, and even included an ad with a Kermit clad in only a scarf that brags, “Finally, a network TV show with full frontal nudity.”
“The Muppets,” a 30-minute series, marks the 1970’s-era characters’ first regular television program in nearly 20 years, and will feel a lot like “30 Rock,” mockumentary-style with quick-zoom reaction shots and confessional cutaways, says the New York Times. But the more grown-up topics the show will dive into are what is irking the One Million Moms.
So the group has launched a petition to warn parents “The Muppets” was not the family-friendly program its 1970’s predecessor was.
“1MM (One Million Moms) suspects there are going to be a lot of shocked moms and dads when they discover that the family-friendly Muppets of the 1970s are no more. It appears that no subject is off limits,” the group says in the petition, in which it provides a phone number to call ABC to pressure the network to cancel the show. “The puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity,” it continues.
“ABC has ruined “The Muppets,” claim the One Million Moms. (That group was the one behind the boycott in 2012 of J.C. Penney JCP 0.11% when that retailer featured same-sex couples in its inserts.)
While it is true that there is a more adult feel to the show, if the promos are any indication, it could well be that ABC is in fact not aiming at children, but at Gen Xers and Baby Boomers who grew up loving the Muppets and want to relive a bit of their childhood in an updated manner once a week. And with their petition, which helpfully tells people what time and channel the show will air, the One Million Moms could well be inadvertently bringing publicity to a show ABC has a lot riding on.

Clearly David Cameron would never have got it on with a pig if it weren't for the Muppets modeling 'inter-species' relationships. Take the Muppets off the air!!

They do know that no one is holding a gun to their heads making them watch the show, right? If they don't want their kids watching it, don't let them watch it. They can go get the original Muppet Show on DVD if that's what they want.
Sorry, but...I'm kind of on their side here. Not for the sin talk, but for the fact that this show is clearly going to be inappropriate for little kids, and yet ABC has it on in an early timeslot. Obviously parents are going to show this to their kids, when it's not really for them.
The old Muppet Show had plenty of adult humor, but it was done far more intelligently, and deliberately went over the heads of most kids.
As I said on ML, I'm vetting this for my kids before letting them watch it, mostly because of that unfortunate promo where Nathan Filion is shown doing a walk of shame from Miss Piggy's trailer in the morning. Gross, man.
I did not know this. I was planning on letting DS watch it. Eek. :?
Am I the only one who didn't think the show's intention was ever aimed toward a children audience? *shrug* I assumed it was an adult show from the beginning.

I still crack up when Beaker flips off Scrooge in the Muppet Christmas Carol.

I did as well, and all the promos I saw seemed to suggest as much.
That being said, I also went out of my way to find promos because I've been looking forward to this show for a while. I've seen a couple promos on regular TV and they are definitely more tame, so I can see what a family might think it's kid-appropriate if that's all they see.
I'm just laughing at the idea that The Muppets are sinful.
Boycotting it only because the whole summer long Kermit and Piggy breakup/new relationship thing that was reported on by the NEWS as if a real story pissed me off!!!
THIS IS NOT A REAL STORY PEOPLE!!! THIS IS NOT NEWS. THIS IS CALLED MARKETING!!!!!

Nope, you're not alone. Because we apparently pay attention.

Because it wasn't. LOL! I'm with you on this.
Same here. Sesame Street are the kid muppets and Muppet Show were the adult muppets.

Frank Oz has been quoted saying that the Muppets have never been nice. That's why he wasn't a part of the reboot Jason Segel movie - because it was too nice.
