As an update from my travel thread from the weekend, it looks like we're traveling with toddler in tow (it was the best option for the employer). Does anyone know about any toddler-friendly things to do/see in Nashville, especially if they will give us a good idea of what life there is like? Also, if you know anything about it, I'd love to hear the city in general as we might move there. Is it a nice place to live? Will we be able to find friends/community as pretty liberal, non-religious types? Are there specific areas to look at or avoid?
I went to visit my SIL with our 1.5 year old and had a lot of fun. We did Lucky Ladds, the zoo, Cannonsburgh Village, and Stones River Battlefield. Lucky Ladds was definitely a big hit.
I loved my time when I lived in Nashville but this was pre-kids. I lived near Vandy and it was very walkable so walks in strollers would be nice. I was also just down the road from all the shopping and stuff and Green Hills so it was so convenient. In fact, everything was so convenient compared to the mess I live in now called NYC metro. Anyways, when I moved there I got a lot of "Nashville?" from NYC metro people who all think living in the south must be like all the stereotypes you could assign the south. It was not like that and I am not white. The most liberal part is the city itself. I was there during the 2008 election and Davidson county was like the only one that went to Obama to give you an idea. My only big complaint was that the summers are very hot but there is always air conditioning for that.
