I tweaked my neck. I'm not sure if it was labor, lack of sleep, sleeping weird or what but it's totally jacked. I can't turn my head to the sides, pretty much at all. I am taking 600mg of Advil every 6 hours and using a heating pad on it. I am almost in tears over the pain. What else can I do?
My son is older and doesn't nurse as often. I was rear ended in June and I am now on my second round of muscle relaxants (Flexaril) in addition to PT, and a cortisone shot.
Yours is probably not that bad and can probably be resolved by heat. Thermacare adhesive hot packs are awesom.
Oh crap, I didn't even think of that. I don't know if you can or not.
In my experience with neck problems while nursing, and it is extensive, Poison Control is the best source of what meds are safe for nursing mothers. I had terrible luck with meds prescribed by my Orthopedic Pain management specialist (seriously, all he did was prescribe drugs, nothing else), you went to someone else for PT, for injections, etc. Poison control had a woman who specialized in nursing mothers, and could tell you a lot more about the risk. I am pretty sure muscle relaxers are not safe, but some other things are. Spinal injections were my friend, but you would have to go a while in pain to have that.
If you can, try stretching your neck, but not so much it kills you with pain. My problem was somehow nursing and repetitive lifting of the babies related. When I quit nursing and my babies walked, it went away.
