So I'm having a child (my first one so I'm kinda lost). For the first few weeks, I want the child to sleep on our room next to my side. The space isn't very large and won't fit a standard pack-n-play let alone a crib.
SIDS precautions would be enough for me to avoid it (though I'm not too familiar with the Moses basket). And chances are, once you have the baby next to you, you'll be more worried about it, too, even if it doesn't worry you much now.

But why can't I just use a Moses Basket. I love them. Other than SIDS precautions, can you see any reasons why not?
As long as it's not too soft/cushy and there aren't extra blankets or anything, a Moses basket would be fine. They tend to have a very short life as babies grow very quickly at first, so a lot of people don't want to incur the expense for such a short-term use item. That's why people opt for something multi-purpose that lasts a bit longer. But anything like that may not fit in your space.

We just used a bouncer, since the kids both had reflux and slept much better a bit upright. We had a bassinet attachment for a mountain buggy stroller that I used on the sofa to lay the babies next to me, it would have also been safe for sleeping, but the reflux made the bouncer preferable. I would not use a straw moses basket, especially one with extra padding and the frills. A cradle could be nice, but the bouncer works just as well, and is more affordable.
