My stepmom is using Chantix to quit smoking! She is 22 days "clean" (she stopped smoking for my kids. I've been wanting her to stop for so long. She has smoked since she was 18, through all three of her pregnancies, etc...She's 37, so she's been a smoker more than half of her life.)
I'd like to do something special for her. I was thinking cake and appetizers. At what increment would be a good time to celebrate quitting?
Awesome! It probably took me 6 months before I could really say I will never ever take one single nasty puff ever again as long as I live. But celebrate her now and then! It's a really hard thing to do, I wanted to for years before I actually did it. And any support I got was huge!

I didn't know you smoked! I use to be a smoker too ::hangs head in shame:: but I am happy to say I haven't had a drag of a cig in 3.5 years and I hope to never again. Ugh, smoking is gross.
But good for your stepmom! 22 days is a big accomplishment! I think any way to show your appreciation (and cake and apps are just fine in my book) will go a long way with her

Yes unfortunately I smoked for a long time. I spent a lot of time in the closet. Never around my family. Not in public places except for bars. I was never one of those smokers who started off my day with one. And if I was hanging with non smokers I didn't smoke either. But if I was hanging w one (and I mostly did) I would totally light up. And out in a bar, easily a pack in a night. Gross! But mostly I smoked when I was alone. Driving, reading, writing, studying, listening to music. Quitting was the best thing I ever did. It wasn't that easy but I did it and I never thought I would truely be able to. ETA I didn't gain the freshmen 15 in college, but I partly blame the extra 20 I've battled with for the last 4 years on quitting that shit. I'll take the 20 pounds over emphysema any day of the week though.
