You've got lots of very knowledgeable ladies giving you good input here! Just adding that I am thinking of you and wishing the best for you tomorrow! Come on little cells!
We had a number of slow-growing embryos at day five, none of which were blasts. We transferred the best one, and left the rest to grow. Several went on to blasts at day 7 and froze, and the one we transferred is upstairs napping.
My RE said that the only reason to wait on a transfer is to have a better opportunity to let the embryos show which of the group is the strongest. If we had had only 1 or 2 growing on day 3, he would have transferred then. In fact, the good day 3 embryo that he would have hypothetically chosen ended up stalling by day 5 and didn't even freeze. So, the fact that yours wants to wait another day shows that they are confident that they have enough good ones to choose from, and improves the odds that they'll pick the strongest embryo.
I get it though, this time SUCKS. Of the entire process, the time when the eggs/embryos were outside of my body was the worst.
That will make it a day 6 transfer. The embryos are developing slowly. I want to cry.
Update- we transferred one beautiful embryo! The doctor said it looked as good as an embryo can look. And I read yesterday that slower developing embryos may be more likely to be girls. Hopefully! So now, the wait begins! I don't go for a beta until Oct. 12, but you can be sure I'll poas before then, lol.
That's fantastic news! Both my day sixers were girls. :-) Now, take it easy and good luck!
