If your employer does not have a STD do you have one on your own? I had it at my old job but my new job does not offer this benefit. I'm debating if I want to get a plan on my own. I'm not even sure which company I would go thru. I used it last time for maternity leave - got paid 60% for weeks 3-6 then the rest was unpaid. Is it even worth the cost?
STD was offered for like $10 dollars a pay period. When I was out of the office for maternity leave it was nice to get a big check. I think it's worth it.
I tried and tried to find STD independently (specifically for maternity leave) because at the time my company did not offer it. From all of the research I did, it's pretty much impossible to find. I finally convinced my very small company to get AFLAC and have STD through them now. Can you see if you can get your new employer to offer AFLAC? I know that's kind of awkward since you are new, but I found out that only 3 people have to sign up for any kind of product they offer from a company for the company to qualify. Once you're signed up, you have to have the coverage for ten months before you deliver in order to get maternity benefits.
