Yesterday, I went in for my 20wk a/s. Everything was going just fine and dandy, until the very chatty tech got quiet when she got to the brain. DH and I both noticed it but she spent a little extra time there and then went along with her chattiness.
After the a/s the doctor came in and upon reading the u/s he informed us that it looks like they had found a 5mm choroid plexus cyst on the brain. He immediately asked when we had availability for a follow-up ultrasound and left the room to call the hospital (which my OB happens to be basically attached to).
Just a few short minutes later we were following the blue line on the walk to the hospital and then sitting in admissions. We were quickly admitted and seen by the perinatal u/s tech and then doctor.
It was pretty much the scariest hour/1.5 hours of my life. The choroid plexus cyst is a (soft) marker for down syndrome and possible indicator for Trisomy 18.
Long story short, the perinatal doctor said everything looks normal. No other markers and what the OB thought was a choroid plexus cyst wasn't. It took several hours for me to decompress, but sheesh, was that scary.
The perinatal said no follow-ups are needed, but of course, after being all but rushed to the hospital, I'm completely freaked out. What a reminder that so much is completely out of our control.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Thanks ladies! I'm so glad they could do the follow up immediately too. It really confirmed my decision to use this hospital too. There are 3 choices in my area, with one in town offering more "luxury options", the one I chose is known as the baby factory. However, it has a lot more to offer since it does see so many babies.

I hate how much they scare you and 9 times out of 10 it's nothing! My DS came back with a high rate for Down's (1 in 9) after the 16 week bloodwork. I got in for an amnio immediately but it still took 3 days for the "quick results" to come back (they do more extensive ones, but the quick ones at least tell you if they have Down's or not). Thankfully no Downs but scariest days of my life!!!!
I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Hearing anything less than perfect information about your baby is so traumatising, but I'm glad that you received good news in the end.
