Does anyone have any experience actually doing this? I have some (a lot) of voicemails from my mom on my iPhone that I don't want to lose when I switch to my new phone.
I read online that you can use a male to male cord to connect the phone to a laptop that has Audacity. I'm having a few issues:
1. Unless I plug the cord into my phone each time I'm about to begin, it's not registering consistently on my laptop. The connection seems good and I have recorded one file, but when I go on to the next file, it plays out of the speaker on my phone and not through Audacity.
2. Once I've uploaded the file, I export it. I've tried MP3, .wav, FLAC, but then when I click on the file it's not able to open it. It asks what app I want to use. I would like to be able to play it through iTunes. There's a chance I may get a Mac in the future and want it to be readable. I can't figure out why iTunes won't play any of these.
Today would have been my mom's 63rd birthday so I am already edgy today. The fact that this isn't working is sending me over the edge.
To verify that the file is valid, you can try exporting it to mp3, then uploading it to google drive or dropbox, both of those have builtin mp3 players, I think.
You can also open up a Terminal and run "file <exportedfilename>" which will look at the actual contents of the file and try to guess what the format is.
