Does this happen? DS has been super whiny/unhappy the last two days. I was thinking it was teething but I realize now that he is either on 2 or 3 full days without a poop. This never happened with DD. I know they can go a while...when do I take him in? A week??
My first would get fussy if he went days without pooping even though it is normal. We would take his temperature when he got to that point and see what would happen. Usually he would poop (or at least have gas) and be smiley again. We had to do this off and on for a year--he wasn't constipated just impatient. He now is regular and enjoys pooping at 2.
I believe up to a week is normal. I can say from experience that when it's been a week, it is not fun to clean up the ensuing diaper.
My two kids were very different in this regard. My daughter went multiple times a day forever and my son did go up to a week without pooping.
That sounds like our situation, DD is 18m and still goes 2-3 times a day!!
So does L and he pooped at every single feeding (day and night) for at least 4 months.
I think I've heard on here something like once in ten days or ten times in one day or something in between all being acceptable for BF babies. Hopefully he goes soon but I don't think you need to worry yet.
Yup, BFed babies can go 7-10 days without pooping. As an infant DS went 8 days one time, and DD when she was 4 months old went 6 days. It was so random too, just out of the blue. Like normal pooping 3+ times a day and then it just STOPPED.
rugbywife, be prepared, when it does happen it will be EPIC.
Until he started on a fair amount of solids, DS usually went every 7-10 days or so. Once he went 13 days between poops, and was still totally fine. At one point I called that 24 hour nurse helpline to ask about it, and was reassured that it's totally normal.
