Any tricks on how to get a kid to stop coughing all night

Long? I think I might go crazy and my daughter is so so tired. She is sleeping with two pillows. I am trying to push the liquids. Anything else? At what point do you check on them if it is just a dry cough?



She sleeps for 2-3 hours and then coughs on and off for an hour or more. We check on her but there is no rhyme or reason on how to stop it. At one point last night she was able to fall asleep after I hugged her for a bit.


She is almost 3.

Take a hot shower before bed?

She's not sick? Maybe talk to your doctor. Is your house really dry?

Is she sick or does she have allergies? In our case, night coughing is caused by asthma and we use albuterol.

We have a "kid's cough medicine" that's just honey. We dose that and Advil (to calm the inflammation) for can't-sleep coughs.

Ditto, and nothing else helped. We tried it all. So many miserable nights - now we have a steroid inhaler we use during colds (and for a bit after) and a rescue inhaler for the coughing that just won't stop. 

He show no symptoms unless he has a cold.

Sometimes for me, opening the window and cooking myself down helps. So we dress L in less clothes and take the blankets away from her face.

We dosed A up with Claritin for a few days with this last cold and it really helped, paired with a humidifier and saline spray/suction.

Off the wall- night coughing was a sign of our son's reflux.

If she's not sick, definitely take her to the doctor. Night coughing can be asthma or reflux.

If she is sick, I'd try honey. Also Benadryl is probably more effective than Zyrtec and might also help her sleep.

Poor little sweetie, hope she feels better soon.

She is recovering from croup. When should I see a doctor about it? Will she need a night inhaler.
