so, h had six teeth extracted today. all at one time. he had to be put under, so i took the day off to drive him there and home.
so, surgery went well, done in about an hour. the nurse came to get me so i could go back, sit with him for a few minutes, and listen to the aftercare instructions.
i got back there. small little room. overwhelming antiseptic smell. h kindly opened his mouth to show me all the gross gauze in his mouth. and as the nurse was going over the instructions re: changing the gauze, eating...
I FUCKING FAINTED
i never, ever do that! all of the sudden, it got really warm in there, i felt like someone put cotton in my ears, and things were getting dim.
next thing i know, two nurses are helping me out of my chair and onto the floor, getting me a cold compress. then when i could stand up again, they made me sit in a dental chair and breathe in some oxygen for a little bit. then took my blood pressure and pulse before they'd let me leave with h.
so, fucking embarrassing. i'm supposed to be there to help h, who just had a shitload of dental surgery, and i pass out. ugh. everyone in the office was great about it. "oh, it happens all the time." "glad it was here and not the parking lot or in the car." but still, i felt like a total lameass.
oh, i'm laughing now. i just still can't believe it. i thought i was better than that!
h is doing really well. he's sore, of course, but he's being awesome about it. i think his biggest bitch right now is that he can only eat cool/cold soft things. and he hates sweets. so pudding and jello and popsicles aren't quite cutting it. i'm so, so lucky that my h is a buck-the-fuck-up kind of guy when it comes to being sick or not feeling well. it would be a looooong week if he was one of those guys that thought he was dying.
I nearly fainted when I was a candy striper many moons ago. We were getting a patient from recovery and he started to throw up and I nearly passed out. lol

Oh no. Fainting in public is the worst. A few weeks ago, I fainted right in front of the self checkout stands at our grocery store. I woke up to a sea of employees and shoppers. I was mortified, especially when the fire department and EMTs came rushing in. DD was in heaven as she loves fire fighters and paramedics. Lol
Don't feel bad. My mom was in recovery from a lumpectomy and breast reconstruction. My sister and I were standing there listening to aftercare instructions about her drains and the doc was administering morphine into her IV. I got to thinking about the last time I had morphine after surgery. I started to get all warm and lightheaded and passed out right there in my moms recovery room. Good thing my sister is the nurse in the family!
