Depends on your policy. I was rear ended last fall and the other person was at fault, so I didn't pay anything. You shouldn't have to if you're not at fault.

I'm glad you are ok. When I was in a similar situation, I had to pay the deductible up front until the other insurance company paid mine and I was reimbursed.
The police might not come out. When I was in an accident they would only come out if someone was injured, didn't have their license, etc.
Where I am they won't come out if the vehicles can drive away but you do have to go to a station to file an accident report before the damage can be fixed if it's going to be over $1000.
