What are some of your favorite road trip snacks? We have a very long road trip coming up and I'm in charge of snacks. I'm having a hard time thinking of what I should take. We are trying to eat healthy, but I can't see us snacking on vegetables. I'm aiming for awesome foods in moderation.
- Veggies and those little single-serve hummus packs are easy. - Pita chips and hummus - Trail mix or chex mix (you can make your own, but I usually buy prepared foods) - Candy! I like non-melty stuff like gummy worms. Not particularly healthy, but whatever - Rice krispy treats aren't too bad
I try to pack healthier stuff, low sodium jerky, trail mix, some dried fruit, energy bars, fresh cut up fruit and veggies with some single serving packets of pb, hummus, or guac.
But I inevitably end up in a travel center with about $20 worth of crap. Bonus points if the travel center has a roller grill where they sell Tornados.

Crackers and cheese cubes nuts popcorn water fruit strips/snacks
Not healthy: Coke for DH our respective favorite candy some type of cookie chips
I'm sure they're chock full of sodium, but Target and other places sell these little kits that have like salami and cheese, turkey, cheese and pepperoni. I've also seen some adult-type lunchables for healthy snacks.
So many great ideas! I especially like the suggestion of the meat and cheese cubes. I would have never thought of that! Maybe I will also throw in some olives.
I NEVER eat these, except on road trips. They're like road trip crack. I even said that to H on the last road trip, to Ocean City, MD. I must have 1 full size bag on the way TO wherever we're going and one on the way home FROM wherever we just went.
When I was a kid, we did Twizzlers and Canada mints. So random!
My H and I have done sugar snap peas, granola bars, raisins, and trail mix. More recently, though, we've skipped the snacks and stop for meals. (If I'm completely honest, though, we've always stopped for meals. The snacks were always in addition to the meals, not in place of them!)
ETA: This is a real Debbie Downer reply. I'm calling out myself for that.
For relatively healthy snacks, Trader Joe's "Just A Handful" packs are great. They have a ton of different kinds, but I'm partial to their Breakfast Trek Mix, and Simply Almonds, Cashews, and Chocolate is great too. I buy that for home or road trips. I also love their unsweetened dried fruit, and the marcona almonds with rosemary. And for some reason I love the gas station packs of sunflower seeds. I never eat them any other time than road trips.

This. And thanks for this post... now I am thinking of all of the crap I'll eat next week when I have to drive 12+ hours with the dog and 2 cats in the car with me.
Aren't road trips the single best excuse to get fast food? They are in my family. If there's a Popeye's in sight, this car is stopping. At the very least McDonald's.

We will likely have a lot of fast food during our stay. I'm probably going to gain 20 pounds in a week.
