That's typically my first symptom as well. Random anecdote: I discovered Zicam two years ago and every time I start to feel a bit "off", I will take one -- I haven't gotten sick in two years (and I *always* get a cold at least once over the winter). I have no idea if its related to the Zicam or not, but I'm not messing with it.

I tried something like this one time, and I got really excited because it seemed to be working.. and then I got sick 2 days later. (wilted)
I have no scientific proof, but it seems to be working for me. :: crosses fingers :: My husband also drinks the Emergen-C packets when he is sick. I rarely use them. He got sick twice last winter and I didn't at all, so...
It's not like I have a magical immune system. I worked at a daycare center after school program when I was in High School and I was sick every other week being around all those little kids. Kids make it impossible to stay healthy!

Yes, I've always had frequent sore throats. They wanted to take my tonsils out when I was a kid, but I never had it done. I actually have a sore throat right now and feel like I'm coming down with something.
Yep. Always starts in the throat. In fact, since having kids, I've been sick so damn much I can usually pinpoint the exact minute when I will swallow and it just feels "off" and I know what's coming.
Oh you guys, I saw this and was like thank god I'm not alone. Actually usually I'll notice either nose is stuffed/runny or I have a little bit of a raspy voice and am coughing up phlegm. Today I woke up around 3am and have been up since with this nasty sore throat, raspy voice, fever on/off, chills. I'm like super cleaning my house as much as I possibly can by de-germing it and opening up windows galore. I'm wearing myself down though, I had to just sit +relax for 10. I am supposed to have someone over around 3-4-ish and I'm hoping I can just power through this, do what I have to do and enjoy the time (the person is sick already, on medicine + probably won't care if I fall asleep while he watches whatever.)
My doctor's office is slammed and usually I can get in to see her, so something is going around. Possibly could be from it being 50 degrees one week to 77 the next here.

Yes, but always at the end. I've been sick since a week ago TUESDAY (grrrrrr) and pretty much my only symptom left is the sore throat. I think it's from breathing through my mouth at night. I'm just so sick of being sick!
I usually wake up with a sore throat, slight feeling of gunk going down my throat and a minor earache. Lack of energy kicks in, ocassional sneezes and a runny nose starts up.
Yep. Every single time. As soon as I feel the soreness in my throat I start pumping the emergenc-e, flonase and chinese herbal tea. It starts with a sore throat, then moves into my chest.

That's how mine progresses too. Can never decide which stage is worse.
The stage where everthing settles in the back of your throat/sinuses/chest at night and then you wake up and gag and dry heave when you try to blow your nose.

Yes and last year I had one where it was JUST a sore throat for a week or something, like swallowing glass before I got other cold symptoms, which only lasted a few days.

ha, same, it's sort of a sick game in my mind deciding which is worse every time
