Hypothetical Question: (We in no way can afford to go this year, but all my Pinteresting got me thinking..)
In Europe would you prefer to emerge yourself in one Country for 2-3 weeks or plan a trip with 3-4 countries for 2-3 weeks?
I go back and forth when I get into my planning phase. I see ups and downs to both. So I'm just curious what other people have done or what you would want to do.

I think it depends on which country(ies) you are visiting and if you're interested in hitting highlights/main cities only or exploring more of the less touristy areas.
Last year we went to Italy and had more than enough to do there (could have done a ton more) We hit a few cities (Rome, Florence, Venice) but also spent time in smaller towns (Siena and Lucca) It was a great balance. We didn't even see the southern half so we could go back and do a whole other trip in Italy.
Next time we go to Europe, I think we're leaning toward doing a few different countries and basically hitting major cities - Prague, Vienna, and maybe a few in Poland. Or we might do just a Poland trip if we have less time (and money). IDK, since we are not going any time soon
H and I like to keep our travels low-key, so I would choose to stay in one country that has a lot of cities and sites of interest to us. It would feel too much like work to have to plan and coordinate travel and transportation to a few different countries.
I have an itch for a vacation too. We won't be able to afford going any where far this next year so we decided that next year we are going to choose a road trip some where.
But if I was going to Europe I would try and go to a few countries, in the 2-3 weeks.

See, I love planning all that stuff! I was always the coordinator on our family vacations and now for me & DH. He's better at being the navigator once we get there so it's a good balance.

I think I missed my calling as a travel agent
H got stressed out when we spent 2 days in Williamsburg and then 2 days in Virginia Beach lol. Once he gets settled into a hotel, he doesn't want to pack again until we're going home.
In 2011, We did a two week cruise and hit 4 countries at once. They included both mine and DH's dream countries to visit. We got to hit a lot of highlights in Egypt, Greece, Turkey, and Italy.
Ireland is next on my list. I want to do the full immersion with that trip. I'd like to do one of those car/bus trips where you drive to various locations in the country and spend a day or two in several prime locations.
Several countries. I know if we went to Europe it would likely be a once in a lifetime trip. Although we love exploring new places we don't prioritize it so we can't afford vacations often.

In this hypothetical situation, am I rich? If I could afford to go back to Europe in a couple years, my answer would be different. Because I probably wouldn't be able to take a trip like that too often, I'd want to see as much as I could!

Let's say no to being rich. We'll go with average dollar amount. I always go back to visiting lots of countries at a time just in case its once in a lifetime. But it also sounds so lovely to 'live like the locals' for 3 weeks. Good thing I don't have to decide anytime soon lol!
It depends on the countries I think. I'd like to do either 1 or 2. I think anymore than 2 would end up stressing me out. I want to go back to Italy again and spend a few weeks there. I'd eventually like to do an Ireland/England trip or maybe London/Scotland.

This will never happen, but.....I would probably pick one country and then travel by train and visit different cities in that country and stay overnight and travel to the next city a day or two later.
If money were no issue, I would spend my whole trip in Switzerland. My grandmother's childhood homes still stand in Lucern and Engelberg and I would love the chance to go see them along with the rest of the country.
