Congrats! It's been a ride so far for us, but a great one.
My cousin, who had a 2 year old and then got PG with twins, said it wasn't as hard as she thought it would be because she already had some idea what to expect.
This board isn't super active, but please pop by with questions if you have any!
Hi! Congratulations! It is definitely a surprise, but a great one. I'm only 3 weeks in, and these are my first kids, but I wouldn't change it for anything!
Congrats! Having twins is something I never dreamed of but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I recommend finding a local multiples club asap. Good luck! I hope your pregnancy is as complication free as possible!
Congrats! I loved Zofran with both of my pregnancies. I always had to take Tylenol with it though or I would get a bad headache. I think there are better drugs out there now for MS.

Congratulations! And welcome to the club! My boy/girl twins are 9 months old. I also have a nearly 8yo daughter. I found the twins to be easier then I anticipated. But dd was challenging as a baby. I really can't imagine not having both of them now. My morning sickness wasn't bad, I hope you feel better soon!
Do any of you have pointers for how to make my pregnancy easier? So far, morning sickness has been miserable. I hope that passes quickly!
Can I send you some books? I was going to bring them to my church swap tonight but they're multiples specific.
One is this one: www.amazon.com/Youre-Expecting-Twins-Triplets-Quads/dp/0061803073 Precaveat: IT IS NOT GOSPEL. You need to read it and apply it to yourself as you see fit. I did not follow everything here, but my MFM did also recommend the 20lbs by 20wks weight gain and I think that helped a lot. Especially b/c you think they share a placenta right? I would be stricter w weight gain through 20 weeks (as in, gain more) than if you had 2 placentas.
The other big piece I liked was focusing on protein. I had an instant breakfast shake every morning to up my protein intake and it helped w my nausea. Once I started that it was easier to get through the day. Also having dry snacks at the bedside.
The others are about preparing for birth and were helpful in pieces also.

I second protein (if you can get anything to stay down), especially once your nausea gets better.
I have to add something about weight gain though. Please listen to the feedback your OB is giving you EmmieB1025 , and don't worry about what a book says. I gained about 25 pounds total and 8 of those were in a week when I was hospitalized with Pre-e. I worried so so so much about weight gain and how I wasn't gaining enough. It was not good for my mental state. My OB kept reassuring me that I was fine. But I kept reading about the suggested weight gain and freaking out. Every visit ( I had weekly ones) with my OB involved a discussion about it and her continuing to assure me that I was ok.
Congrats! Welcome to the club I only pop in this board a couple times a week. If you post, tag some of us so we come in

This is true. I read it after I had already met w my MFM who recommended the same weight gain. So it was easier for me to go along w it.
But I didn't actually hit it until right at 20wks and she was cool about that too.
The important thing is babies grow and every body is different. The book gives you some higher cal but still healthy recipes which is really the best part of the book I think. My caveat I thought covered some of this -- it is highly prescriptive, so just be aware of that going in. No other doctor I had was that prescriptive lol.
(Fry I'm also amazed you only gained 25lbs -- I gained 70!! and flipside, neither OB nor MFM said anything about that gain either b/c I ate healthy and was as active as they'd let me be, so it was just what my body had to do -- so def go by their gauges.)
ninjabridemom yeah, but I delivered at 33 weeks. I wonder how much I would have gained if I had gone to term
The weight gain is sensitive to me. I would constantly hear how small I was from strangers and people I knew. Even from U/S techs and it was not great to hear when I knew they were watching how small Henry was and I ended up with IUGR. I truly feel that you really can't control how your body reacts to pregnancy. Someone eating chicken breasts and carrots can gain 80 pounds, while another will gain 20 doing the same. Plus, I had so much guilt over the boys being early, that I was blaming my lack of weight gain ( it was not intentional at all) as one reason.
My MFM didn't seem too concerned about my weight gain as he did other issues. LOL.

DH actually bought the book you linked yesterday!
Yes, right now the doctor thinks they are sharing the placenta, but couldn't tell with 100% certainty. They are hoping to determine for sure at my next appointment on 11/4. Weight gain is one thing that I am so nervous about right now. Everything online that I've read indicates that by now I should have gained 10-15 lbs. I've gained nothing! I'm trying to eat, and to eat healthy but it's been so hard. A friend of mine also had recommend the instant breakfast shakes. I'm going to pick some up today and see if that helps. I've also been trying so hard to drink a gallon of water each day, but so far can't do it! I already drank a lot of water to begin with, and adding more had been hard. Drink water, go to the bathroom, repeat!
I'll pm my address if you would like to send me the other books.

I'm sorry -- I'm feeling really insensitive right now. I am remembering that we have had this exact conversation before. It is really personal and you should feel no guilt at all. Your kids are amazing! You're amazing! What you guys went through was really hard and you're amazing.
It's easier for me to talk about weight gain etc considering I had an uncomplicated pregnancy (outside of our genetic issues but that didn't affect the *pregnancy*) and I try to come at that perspective for newbs so it isn't scary overwhelming. But I forget the other side of that is seemingly stomping on the hard stuff others go through if it doesn't work out as well as my experience.
I'm sorry. And you're amazing. I'm glad you're here to help counterbalance my advice

Does your Dr's office have a nutritionist? I went to an MFM and they had an in-house nutritionist that I met with to get a protein plan going.
For me, I was already overweight so it was more about not gaining too much weight but also getting my protein in. The nutritionist definitely recommended these protein drinks, but they sucked and I only could drink them for so long before I was done.
When I was nauseated in the first tri, I basically kept oyster crackers at my desk and snacked on them throughout the day. It was one of the only things that helped. Sometimes ginger ale would help too, but mostly the crackers.
My Dr said the first tri is all about survival - eat what you can keep down and try not to sweat it too much.
