Talk to me like I am 5 please - as Timeline on FB just happened on my page. :-(
Yesterday, a friend, "R" wrote on my wall something (nothing too private, however, didn't need the whole FB to see it).
Later that night, I am speaking to friend, "L" and she says, "Oh I see 'R' wrote such-n-such on your wall."
"L" is not friends on FB with "R" - so how did she see this? "L" told me it was on her news feed b/c I replied to R's wall post, and b/c "L" is friends with me, she can see what I respond too.
I don't mind people seeing my wall should they click on my actual wall and read things, but why would this show up in "L's" newsfeed and how do I make it stop.
Hope this makes sense.
(Side note, this may not be MLR, but I wanted responses to fix this. I know FWP's to deal with. Meh!)
The suckiest part of FB is privacy settings. Essentially, R (or every single friend that you have, individually) has to unselect the settings they have towards you, "unsubscribing" to your feed. You can't do that, they need to do that for you (and presumably, for everyone else that also wants this).
Ergo, you really can't publish anything without friends of friends potentially seeing it in their news feeds.
Of course, news feeds are viewed more the more "interaction" you have with certain friends. But the risk remains the same.

This is so annoying. Who is really going to unsubscribe to this stuff. I mean, grant it, I unsubscribe to polls/quizzes, etc., but to sit there and unsubscribe or minimize certain things PER person I am friends with is ridculous.
You'd think they would realize not everyone wants everyone to see everything; KWIM? MEH!

Something that really annoys me: both my sister and my SIL have liked the page for Kohls. So now I get regular posts from Kohls as if I liked that page, because they did. It's stupid.

Recently, I noticed something similar to this....in my news feed on my iPHONE (only) every other post is "Pages You May Like" and there will be two pages (stores or business related). This week alone, it is has been Wal*Mart and Samsung USA. WTF! Why is this happening, too?

In the middle of my feed yesterday I got an ad for a community college. I almost click it because I was wondering why I had liked it then I noticed it said "sponsored ad" in the corner. Tricky bastards.

I think the privacy thing might be on your end but I'm not sure. I find the privacy settings on FB confusing. Anyway I have only unsubscribed to one person but I don't get random stuff in my feed from my other FB friends. If I go look at their wall I may see them, but I don't see their conversations in my feed.
I think I'm one of those people who... just doesn;t care about this. If anything's private, email me. Otherwise, I'll delete it from my timeline if I need to. I just assume everyone can see everything on my FB and post accordingly.
This doesn't work. There isn't an option for "No One." It is either Everyone, Friends of Friends, or Friends.
If you're already friends with someone then why would you care if they search your name?
Not sure what you're asking, but I was just pointing out that you can't change who can find you to "no one." Before, I think you could do that and be completely unsearchable.
I guess I don't see why there needs to be a no one option. If you are friends with someone you presumably don't mind them having access to your profile. You can limit what access they have elsewhere.
To the general public, is what the issue was. If Joe Schmoe, who isn't friends with anyone I know, wants to search for me. There used to be an option to prevent that, now there is not. That is what hoobs was referring to in her post above, I presume.
I don't think she is referring to being searchable by her friends, or friends of friends.
But doesn't that still happen? If Joe Schmoe isn't your friend he can't search you. My bio dad was not my friend & couldn't search me under the "friends only" option.
