I am planning my daughter's 2nd birthday. As a guest would you rather go to a party on a Sunday afternoon or a Saturdah afternoon? The party would start at 3 or 4. So late afternoon. Dinner and snacks will be provided.
Sunday would be her actual birthday. Saturday would be 2 weeks after her birthday.
Saturday afternoon. On Sunday afternoons, we're ramping up for the upcoming week and wouldn't want to have to rush home and try to get everything together for the week.
Saturday, but that would be right in the middle of naptime for us so I would rather it be earlier or later. If you are serving dinner, why not start at 5?

3-4pm is a very common party start time for little ones... you'll find out as kids start turning 3yo and you get invited to a ton of parties
as for naps- we just put our kids down earlier, etc, if needed. you can never please everyone with nap times b/c everyone has their own schedule- so do what works best for the BIRTHDAY child with the timing - so at least the birthday child can have fun and not be tired/fussy

I guess we all have late nappers in my circle, all the parties so far have been lunch time, with the exception of some night time bounce parties that were at like 6pm. I totally agree with scheduling around the birthday child's naptime. I didn't realize it was common to start a party that early and serve dinner. But really we only go to friends and family parties, my kids aren't in school or daycare yet, I assume that means a lot more parties.

Unlike most of the pps, I'd prefer Sunday. Saturday is pretty full with activities for my kids from about 9-2, after which we like to relax. I don't want to drive to/from a party (my DDs are old enough that parties are now drop offs), my kids are too tired to want to attend one. Sundays, on the other hand, we leave open for relaxing, doing family stuff if we want, etc. We can easily arrange around a party and make sure we're not so busy that we're too tired to look forward to it. As long as we're home by a reasonable bedtime there's no other "getting ready for the upcoming week" that we need to do on a Sunday afternoon.
I would prefer Saturday, but Sunday would be fine for me, too. My daughter's birthday is on a Sunday this year so that's when we are having her party, although it will be earlier in the day.
