Agree that you need to start with an hour a day. I love mine, I run in them and got fitted with them for my running shoes. You will start loving them I promise just slowly work into it.
Don't just throw them in your shoe and leave them there. Ease yourself into it. Wear them for an hour or two and then take them out gradually increasing your wear time which I'm sure the people who prescribed/made them told you! Don't be afraid, it's the over pronation that's hurting you. This will fix it! If they cause more pain, take em out and get a do-over!
My PT wants me to be fitted for orthotics because of my super high arches and the way I roll my foot. I'm a little intimidated myself. Report back and let us know if they are helping!
They look uncomfortable, but really they are not. Ease into them. I have had to wear them for the last 5 years and will have to forever, because I tore my plantar fascia.
