I'm in the process of changing my dogs' food from a dry food to a wet food and I'm having difficulty with getting our Toy Fox Terrier to eat slower. He inhales his food in less than 2 minutes. This morning was the first time of having just the new food (every other meal has been a combo of old and new) and he ate it even faster. And of course this upset his stomach and he threw up in his crate and on the rug. All three dogs eat the same food and at the same time and I sit with them so that they can't steal from each others bowl. How can I get him to slow down? I've tried taking his bowl away while he's chewing but that just makes him eat faster when I put the bowl back.
My dogs have the same problem, and I got a bowl like this one. It really helped slow them down. They have kind of gotten the hang of it now (it's been years), but it still slows them down as compared to a regular bowl (which they can inhale in under a minute - it takes about 5 minutes for them to eat out of the special bowl).
