Hello! I don't really go here, but I have two issues that I need some serious help with.
1. My 2 year old has curly hair. SUPER curly, out of control, but thin. Mine is stick straight and tends to get greasy, so I have to wash daily and I just discovered that conditioner really helps with breaking and shedding (yes, it took me 30-something years to learn this). I'm assuming I shouldn't be washing her hair all that often (we do every other day baths for the kids in our house).
2. In addition to not really understanding hair, I've never had much in the way of a facial skin care regimen, other than washing. I happened to catch a glance of myself in my dimmed tablet screen, and I was shocked at the wrinkly, old-looking face staring back at me. I much prefer my bathroom lighting. Any good recommendations for halting the progression? I'm guessing reversal is a pipe dream.
C has curly hair as well. We wash her hair every other day and spritz with water in the mornings if we get around to it. I use Suave kids shampoo on her hair and a bit of my conditioner. We also use the a de-tangling brush (like the Knot Genie) when she gets out of the bath. We also get it cut every 4-6 weeks just to keep it shaped so it doesn't get too heavy and weigh down the curls.
1. My DD has super curly, fine hair as well. I only shampoo it with a moisture shampoo 2x a week. Other than that I just use a moisture conditioner and that is pretty good. When I don't want to wash it I just braid it or do some fun pigtails because if I don't it's just so frizzy.
2. I get Botox regularly and I love it. It's pricey but I haven't seen results quite like it from anything else. I only get the '11' done between my brows and it's great. However, I'm pregnant right now so I won't be able to get it done for a while. In the meantime, I also use la mer face cream and it's wonderful. My skin is so soft and I can easily go without make up, no problem.
1. Co-washing is a great option. If you don't wanna splurge on fancy hair stuff for her yet, the Suave Naturals conditioners are great for this (I like the coconut scent). Ditto braids or other hairdos if you can manage that in between washes. Detangler may also be useful to help comb out kinks, just try to find one without silicones or sulfates. In a pinch, some diluted conditioner in a spray bottle can work. Also get a Wet Brush. It has been a game changer for me as far as combing through wet hair.
2. Paula's Choice has been my best skincare discovery and many on here will agree. Your best bet is to call customer service, describe your skin issues, and they will rec products for you to try. Feel free to use my referral link for a discount (I get one too if you purchase): goo.gl/oyIAbn
1. My DD is 5 with crazy curly hair. We wash it every 2-3 days. When wet, we use a detangler spray and wide pick comb. When dry, I use a detangler spray and brush with my fingers and scrunch it.
2. Paula's choice is amazing, I second that recommendation. It's done great things for the acne and overall smoothness of my skin.
1. My 5 y.o. has long, fine, super curly hair. I use L'Oréal EverCurl – usually conditioner only with shampoo once every other week or so, except in the summer when she's at the beach and pool all the time and gets shampooed more often. I comb it with a Wet Brush in the shower before rinsing the conditioner, and braid it in a single braid before bed to keep it from getting tangled overnight (even on nights she doesn't shower). In the morning I spray with detangler as needed and soak with a spray bottle of water (because it looks best air-dried after being wet) and again brush with the Wet Brush and then give it a few shakes with my fingers. Apparently you're not supposed to brush curly hair, but the Wet Brush is the only thing she'll let me use to get out the tangles.
2. I have no advice but could probably use some myself, ugh.
I have curly hair and I only use coconut oil as my styling product. I've been using it for about 2 years. It keeps the frizz under control.
I recently started using a new skin care routine. I was having terrible breakouts and my face was awful. I cleanse with coconut oil, use a warm cloth to remove all the oil and then use apple cider vinegar diluted with water as my Toner. 1 tablespoon ACV to 2 tablespoons water. My face is clear. I wish I had taken before and after pics. In 3 weeks my skin is amazing. I feel the coconut oil keeps my face moisturized, smooth, less wrinkles and feels so amazing.
I'm starting to clear out all the products in my bathroom with chemicals. I first started with cleaning supplies and now I'm moving on to body.
You've gotten great tips already, the only thing I'll add is that instead of buying detailing spray (too expensive with 2 girls with curls!), I make my own. I buy the Tresemee natural conditioner and mix a generous amount with water in a large spray bottle. I saturate my DDs hair with it each morning before picking out the knots. I also use a little oil in their hair daily. We wash twice a week with a co-wash and I try to braid their hair at night.
ETA: I think Paula's choice is a great brand and I use some of her products on my body (chest/neck), but none on my face as they all made me break out (and I generally have pretty clear skin). Thought I'd caution you to maybe try one or two of her products at a time!
