We are attending a 1 yr old bday party. It is from 11-2, so I assume lunch will be served. Would it be weird for me to call and ask what it is being served so I know if Layla can eat most of it? Should I assume she can? Should I just bring back up food anyway?

Yeah, she will definitely eat anything. I just put cheerios on a napkin. She ate the cheerios and then started to eat the napkin and is currenty eating her socks.
Is she allergic to something? If not I'd just assume she can eat what theyre serving. Then again dd fell in love with hot dogs at a bday party soooo.....

This. I generally let the kids eat whatever is offered at a party.
We just let him eat whatever is at the party. But the 2 birthday parties we have been to have had raw veggies, watermelon, cheese, crackers and lunch meat, and cupcakes. I don't worry about it too much. But I always keep some cheerios in the diaper bag in case he wants those.

I wouldn't call. I would just bring some backup food in case. I would usually have a bunch of snacks in my diaper bag even though DD never was too picky of an eater.

We always bring backup food because of allergies. In fact we usually bring cupcakes to birthday parties to share since my kids have egg, dairy and nut allergies. That way I can be sure my kids have a treat when they can't eat the cake

Oh man! Do they each have all three allergies or is it a mix? That is so tough.

I have to do the same thing due to my DS's gluten issues.
OP - outside of allergy issues, no, I wouldn't call.
DS had an egg allergy (luckily he outgrew it) so I always asked ahead of time what would be served and brought back up snacks. I am too lazy to bake cupcakes for every party we went to so I usually brought some store bought egg free cookies so he could have that instead of cake.
if your child is picky or has a special diet (allergies, etc) - just bring some snacks of your own in case nothing there will work. Consider the host - and how annoying it would be to have a ton of people asking "what food are you serving??".... annoying as fuck
