Or maybe its just the age he is.

But he gets upset when people and animals break any sort of rule. Kittens who wrestle need to be put in time out. Dogs who wag their tails and hit you are lectured on not hitting. We absolutely do not do pinatas. Uncles sit in time out for saying bad words.

I am not sure how to explain to him that there are different rules for different people and circumstances.

i am dying at the visual of putting a kitten in time out and lecturing a puppy. i'm sure he is just figuring this stuff out. he sounds like a cutie.

My DD is a big rule follower too. She gets so frustrated when other kids and people dont follow the rules or use their manners. I do explain to her frequently that everyone has different rules and do things differently, and that the only person she needs to be responsible for is herself and her actions.
