The ultimate LBD?

I need it.

I'm not tiny. Size 10, very curvy, rather fluffy around the middle and short (5'2).

I would love to find that dress (or dresses). That one that can go from occasion to occasion with the right accessories. Probably erring slightly on the more evening end of necessary occasions, but in a vary NOT fashion forward, formal place. 

We do a variety of evening work things, from really worky to shmoozy snooty things. These are not events for fun...I need armour. Something I feel confident in. 

I'm good with a little ediger, more fashion forward and less safe, but again, the scale is skewed. I wore a black, jersey maxi from J Crew with flats and minimal jewelry and everyone was all "whoa! ball gown!" at a recent event. Just so you can gauge the scale here when we're talking fashion forward.

I like this Ted Baker houndstooth.  It's a classic print and a great silhouette.  This is another good one from him.

I am short as well. I  have had some decent luck with Ralph Lauren dresses.  They are typically made pretty nicely, figure flattering and usually a fair price - especially with coupons.  Here is a link to black Ralph Lauren dresses at Macys.  I would also second the suggestion to look at White House Black Market - they always have a ton of black dresses.

I love this!! I hope it goes on super sale as it would not be something I could wear frequently.
