Help me style myself and DH to go with this outfit I have picked out for DD. I'm OK with us being more casual than she is, since she's the focus. I will use for Christmas cards, and get prints for our parents and grandparents.
DD might not fit the shoes but will do black or white tights, or maybe red tights if the shoes don't fit?
Also not sure if I want a bow for her or not since the dress has the flower.

I'd do your black and white furry vest with black ponte or faux leather leggings and some form of boots or booties for you with a cute top and statement necklace. For your DH, I'd go with his favorite red shirt and best jeans. If he's like mine, he only wears the same 4-5 shirts when he's off with jeans no matter where we are and doesn't give a damn if I'm in a cocktail dress. He only dresses up for weddings, funerals, and work since he can get fired there.

I like the fur vest idea. I'd probably wear a shirt with some sort of texture underneath with the faux leather panel leggings and then everything FormerCityGirl suggested for your DH. Can't wait to see your pictures!

Green is just going to immediately read "Christmas". Which is fine if you're planning to use it primarily for a Christmas card, but won't give you as much versatility year round. I'd recommend having your H wear a dark grey shirt, and then you should wear your faux leather leggings with either red and/or white on top, and a statement necklace. I would not wear the vest if it's blue.
Mostly, keep in mind that if you all wear the same color on top, you can tend to look like a blob in group photos.

ditto PP, put DH in grey, could you wear a buffalo plaid? maybe a stripe with the leather leggings? i'd love to see you stay away from the tradition solids/matchy matchy family photos since you're quite the stylish mom =)
Gray is a good option for DH, he has a nice button down shirt that would be good.
I like the buffalo plaid idea, I could find one easily I think. I have a few plaids that are various colors, not red/black. I didn't want to do too much black, but the leather leggings will be fine. Links to cute ones if anyone has seen a good one though!
What color tights with DD? I'm leaning towards red because I don't think she can wear the shoes.. They're much too big as I suspected. Maybe a black sequin bow so it doesn't stand out too much with the dress flower, but is still something cute and girly?

I agree with you--either buffalo plaid or a stripe would be great. I wasn't necessarily suggesting a solid white or red on top, just that it would be good to bring in the red from her daughter's dress/shoes somewhere else--maybe even a strong red lip?
FashionX- I know this is going to sound a little crazy, but depending on how big the shoes are, I've seen moms use a little tissue paper and/or Kleenex to stuff the toes of shoes so they'll stay on for a session. I'd definitely suggest *some* type of shoe even if the red ones don't fit--it looks much better than just tights in a photograph.

That's a good point, especially with how dressy the dress is. I'll see if they look weird stuffed or pick up another pair.

Your shirt is reading really purple to me--not sure if that's the case in real life or not. I don't love purple and red together for photos, but that may be a personal preference.
I love the idea of sequin leggings, BUT, I would definitely recommend chatting with your photographer about them. Sequin can photograph amazingly, but it can also turn into a giant disco ball and make everyone look like they've got mottled skin. It's totally doable, but not in every location and with every lighting setup. As a photographer, I would definitely appreciate a heads up just so I could plan accordingly!

It's definitely not purple, it's more of a burgundy/berry/wine color. I'll snap a pic with our stuff laid out together. I'm not totally sold on the top but not sure what other one to wear instead if it doesn't work. I did order the black and white fur scarf so I don't want to do anything that will look weird with that.
The sequins are black and fairly matte so I think they will be ok. We are just planning to go to the Picture People studio, but I'm sure I can ask about it when I confirm the appointment. If it's too weird I can always just wear black leggings instead.
The thought of you going to Picture People kills me a little inside
In all seriousness though, flash photography is one of the instances in which sequins can respond a little oddly. If you can, have someone snap a photo (even just with a phone camera) of you with the flash while wearing the leggings. It won't be quite the same, but will give you an idea what they'll look like in the studio with a flash. You may be fine if they're pretty matte, but if it were me, I'd test them out first.

I know, I know. Its been an expensive year but I still want some decent family photos, so it's going to do for this year. I'd prefer a shoot with an independent photographer, but that'll have to wait.
I think the leggings are safe, I've taken non-pro pics with them on, and never had any issues with picking up a flash. But I can always pack a backup pair JIC.
