So very last minute we scheduled a family mini session for this weekend. Both my wife and I are pretty unhappy with our weights right now and have very limited wardrobes and pretty much nothing were happy with. But we believe in the get in the picture philosophy... So here goes.
The girls will probably wear these dresses knit by grandma. Likely either jeggings or cream tights underneath. Both kids will have long sleeves under, probably both white?
My wife and I will likely both wear jeans. She wants to wear this navy blue sweater that i don't love but is ok. She says she'll wear something else if I find it but has no time to go to a store and sometimes has a tough time with smaller shoulders/boobs and bigger hips.
I have a few options but nothing I love. I'm plus sized and carry a lot of weight in my belly and don't want to look pregnant, which always makes shopping a pain.
While I like the print of 2 by itself, I prefer to put kids in a print and parents in solids so the kids "pop" more, so I'd be hesitant to put you in a print since you would stand out more. And it seems a little more spring/summer than fall.
#3. The colors are all fall colors. The print and colors make it look like one girl should go with you, while the other guess with your wife. The magenta sweater stands out.

I like the group with the print. I just think you need some kind of pattern mixed in with the solids, and similar to a pp, I usually put the kids in a pattern, but those dresses are just too special, so therefore, you and YW should shake it up a little. I wouldn't have everyone in the same thick knit either.
Would you layer the patterned top with anything, or are you in an area where short sleeves are fine? You could also add a blue scarf that matches the darker tones in the print. I would also add either a striped or lighter colored shirt under the blue sweater, and if you do a solid, add a colorful necklace or a little fabric rosette to add in some other colors. Add some accessorizing to pull it all together.
I just don't want everyone to be in a plain bright solid. My ILs always end up doing that, and the colors technically go, but they just don't look cohesive.

You nailed my concerns... I'd probably wear a cardigan over the print shirt if I did that one. The weather should be upper 50s or lower 60s and I can handle the cold, but I don't want to look springy while my family is all wearing sweaters. But I'm worried about everybody in all solids.
I was considering switching the dresses for my daughters, but the more I think about it I really want to use these. We really love them and haven't worn them enough and having family photos in them will mean a lot to my mom.
I like ideas about how to add more diversity to the adult outfits to pull it together, thanks.
I love the little dresses and shoes- so flipping adorable.
I do like the print but don't know if it is the right print. I also like the colors of #3 but I feel like it needs some pizazz. Will you and your wife wear a tank or shirt under your sweaters? I think maybe a cream shirt under with a necklace will help bring it all together.

If she wears this blue sweater she'll probably do a tank too under it. You'll be able to see a little of it but not a lot. If I do the pink/purple sweater in #1 you won't see much of what I wear under it. If I wear the redish one in 3 you'll see what's under.... Maybe a cream shirt like you suggest. Or I could try to find a print...but that might be a tall order. I think I have a chunky necklace in a similar red color but I'll have to look.
I like #1 the best - I feel like your sweater makes all the colors pop. #3 is a close 2nd but the colors don't all pop the same way. BUT it all looks nice.
#2 is o.k. but I agree- you being in a print will make YOU pop.

#2. I'm a photographer so from my perspective, I like the idea that someone be in a print so I say #2. A print breaks up the monotony of all solids. When we do photos I usually choose something with a print for someone and then coordinate the outfits from there based off the print.

Me popping is like the last thing I want! Ha. I'd like to fade to the background. The cute babies should pop. Sigh.
