I really, really want to start skipping washes. I have always been an every day washer and I feel like I'm just destroying my hair (I have to blow dry after washes or it looks horrible). I know I probably need to invest in some high quality shampoo/dry shampoo, but I'm clueless. My bangs are the biggest concern - they get so oily-looking on the second day. Advice and tips? TIA!
I live in an area with hard water and I get super oily so I had to trial and error a few things. Typically I go 2-3 days between washes. I installed a filtered shower head by Aquasana and it definitely made a difference. I rotate shampoo/conditioners every few months. Right now I use Bed Head (in the red bottle, I can't remember the name right now). I only use Moroccan oil and blow dry/flat iron the first day. The night of day one I spray dry shampoo before bed, I use Batiste dry shampoo for dark hair. I will reapply in the morning, touch up my roots with my blow dryer and curl it. Day three it usually ends up in a ponytail or bun. When I had bangs I did have to wash them daily because even with dry shampoo they'd look awful. I would section it off and only wash the bangs and follow the other steps I listed above for the rest of my hair.

For dry shampoo, I like the powders the best. They go much further. Alterna Caviar in the purple bottle is great. This bottle lasts me about a year with long hair. Just pour a small amount in your hands, rub them together, and rub it through your roots. I do it before I go to bed and my hair looks fresh in the morning. To keep your bangs fresh, wet just your bangs and blow them dry for a minute on the no wash days to keep them looking newly styled daily. Mine take about 90 seconds. Also, find a good thermal protectant and use that when you blow dry. I like this one by Sojourn, this by Sebastian, or use this for wet hair by Biomega. I also like Caudalie Oil too when I don't have anything else. Caudalie can be worked through wet or dry hair if it needs moisture, used as a moisturizer on skin, or light scent. I like it for travel since it works for so many things. I just buy the little bottle and use it for travel. When using a thermal protectant, oil, or product like Behave, work it through your hair and give it time to absorb. For oils or sprays, let them dry before using tools or a blow dryer and they will protect your hair better. Shampoos and conditioner are hard since you didn't mention your hair type. If you have damage, I love the Tigi Reborn line with shampoo and conditioner with the Nocturnal Conditioning treatment. I color and barely get split ends since I switched. It's new and hard to find. It's been a game changer.
