DH and I want to start planning a vacation for the second half of 2013 (after April). We are having a hard time deciding where we want to go. We will not be bringing the kids (yay!) and our budget is about $4-5K for this trip. We live in the PNW. We are up for anything, though we tend to lean toward vacationing in warmer climates. Hawaii is out, since we are going there in November of this year.
We went to the Cook Islands a couple years ago and really liked it. It's like Hawaii with no resorts, tourists, or military bases and way fewer people. From the West Coast the flight isn't bad -- just down to LA then overnight to Rarotonga -- and it's the same time zone as Hawaii so jetlag isn't bad, either.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
