Everything he said was horrifying. But when he got back into the back room after the elimination and said he was surprised he was in the bottom because other looks were worse than his....
I really hope they follow up on that comment next week. And I hate to admit it because he is so annoying and bitchy but Gunnar grew on me a bit this week. He was so happy and excited to design for his model. It warmed my heart a little.
I was sorry to see Nathan go as I like some of his previous stuff and as much as I disliked his dress, it was better than the original idea of a 1/2 shirt and skirt.
I think Venn is talented and really good with detail but he was a real jerk to his model. I just don't think he realized how what he was saying was affecting her. He was so clueless.
As much as I hate him, I wish Gunner had one. His model was sooo happy and fun. Of course Fabio won, I hated that outfit which is how it usually works. I dislike something and that person wins.

Fashion is SOOOO subjective. There have been quite a few times that I think something should be in the bottom, and it ends up in the top. Huh, what? Or vice versa.
Or there will be a style that I think is amazing - far better than the top 3 - but it's just "safe".
Sometimes I really don't get what it is that the judges are looking for. Either that or my fashion sense is just totally off.

The "design for a woman at work" challenge was a perfect example. I don't know anyone that would or could wear that blue dress to work. I thought the other collection had a ton of pieces someone could wear. What won? The blue dress. I really think they picked it because it photographed well rather than being someone a real person could wear to work.
OK - I have to LOL at myself.(I haven't watched the full episode yet).
I went to the website and looked at all the designs and didn't look at whose they were. I got to one that was the most "different" so far, and thought "Oh- I like that". It was fabio's. Then I got to one that immediately made me go "Ew - really?" and it was Nathan's.
Maybe I'm not AS off on my opinions from the judges as I thought!

I think they took the clients' reactions into consideration, and that's part of the reason Fabio won. I liked his dress and thought it was cool, but I think the fact that his client seemed very concerned about looking weak or over-sexualizing herself, and that she was still really happy with the dress, definitely played in his favor. I think that's also while Gunnar's client ended up on the top-- she really showed her confidence and pleasure with the look (which I thought was a little fussy), so they put him in the top.
I usually don't like Gunnar, but I gained major respect for him tonight. Lost a ton of respect for Ven. I wish one of the other designers had talked to him about being such a raging douchebag to his client-- I get that it's a competition and they are happy to see him fail, but I feel like his behavior hurt someone who seemed perfectly nice.
I feel like this season is full of people who have never seen the show before, with all of the complaining about how little time they have (on earlier episodes) and Ven's fat-shaming comments. Shouldn't they expect a "real person" challenge by now?

Coming in...I thought this too...but then... Clearly the two women working with Venn were pissed and were outspoken about it and yet..Venn stayed! That guy should have gone HOME his outfit sucked AND he was a shitty person! I was confused. It didn't match up.
I thought the producers told the judges to keep Venn.
Venn was such a huge dickhole to his model! I think they let him stay because they did all like the skirt, and because he was in the top for other challenges. But oh I wished they would have booted his ass for how he behaved.
I really like Fabio's dress that won and I would wear it. I'm not a particularly girly girl and I know where that women was coming from with presenting yourself a certain way to the people you work with. It was so cute on her and seems really appropriate for both her style and her job.

I totally agree with this; I think that Ven was in the bottom because of his behavior, but I think that they booted Nathan because he blew it with a client that most other designers would have loved-- a relatively thin girl who wanted something to perform in (so it would be OK to be costumey or a little over the top). I also think that, because Ven was/is a frontrunner, they didn't want to boot him just yet. I hope that there is fallout next week for Ven's behavior, since he was really, really horrible.
Apparently Michael Costello tweeted that he would design a dress for Ven's client because he felt like Ven treated her so terribly.

I had never looked at it like this--this is an excellent point!
Does Project Runway really weigh the previous performances of the contestants or do they take each challenge as a single event? (Top Chef takes each event--you could win every single challenge--over salt a steak one time and be gone!)

I think it's a one time shot each time, like Top Chef. I actually read that one of the front running designers this season gets "auf'd" and it's a shock.
The whole premise is "One day you're in, the next you're out".
But - we know the producers have a hand in it. As I think they do on TC too! THink about it- we don't ever get to taste the food. We dont' REALLY know what is good or bad. At least w/ PR, we can see the final results.

Before the start of this season Heidi made clear that the judging was made from the work that the designers had come up with for each challenge in particular. But, in reality, I think this isn't always true. This is a reality show and I think they keep contestants for the drama factor.
I was a Ven fan but, let alone his behaviour, I'm getting a little tired at his lack of creativity. He does the same desing over and over again.
I was surprised that Alicia wasn't on the bottom. Her dress didn't seem well made and it looked tacky.
I watch Top Chef and Project Runway and while Top Chef may lean a little more towards one-time performance. They both consider people's full body of works. If someone has completely kicked ass the entire time and has one bad day, they usually don't kick them off. Sometimes but not most of the time.
I knew Venn wasn't going home. He's an excellent designer, but to me his stuff is just kind of boring and not exciting. But that's my style. I like more fun clothes.

I finally got to watch this weekend. Wow, Ven is really an ass. I liked how Tim made a dig at him when they had to say goodbye to Ethan. I also teared up a little on how sweet Gunnar was with his client. I hadn't really liked him before this, but it definitely showed a good side to him. Now I'm not sure who my favorite is...

Venn really showed himself as being a dick on that episode. That said, I really want that skirt he made. (ETA: I want a cleaned up version: less puckering and a little shorter)
This article talks more about how awful Ven was and how awesome Gunnar was. Ven apparently posted some dickish tweets about how it was edited to make him look bad, when she's saying that they actually edited to make it be less harsh and hurtful (which she was grateful for, it sounds like she was an even bigger mess than they showed - sad!). Gunnar though, was trying to help her out in the makeup and hairstyles so she wouldn't be a total mess.
Although, to put on my snark hat for just a minute, I don't actually believe that this woman was a size 10 like she is claiming. I know the camera "adds 10 pounds" but she looks a lot bigger than me, and I'm a 14 on a good day, and a 16 on a bad day.

I too find that hard to believe. I'm between a 10 and a 12 and I'm basically thin. Now, granted, I'm 6'0", which plays a role in this. But still... it's hard to believe.

I agree as much as he bullied her she's doing a disservice to others. I'm between a 12-14, and look thinner than her. I know everyone carries their weight differently..but it's a bit hard to believe. Even if she is a 12 or 14 that's still not plus size, even Tim commented on that during the show.
The way Ven spoke to and about his client was awful. No style, no shape, ... um really? And, honestly, I thought she was good looking and the judges were right in that his design did her no favors.
I am also so not into the "I haven't dressed regular women" attitude. It's not like only models are buying the clothing!
