I have 2 girls, 4 and 6. The 4 yr old has a lot of interests. But my 6 year old is impossible to shop for! I have no ideas what to get her for Xmas other than books and clothes. I feel like a lot of toys are too babyish for her and I don't want to get a bunch of junk that will sit around our house and not be played with. She really likes pretend play and also electronics (we only have a Leap pad, no other electronics at our house right now).

my 5, almost 6 year old, wants shopkins and beanie boos. so junk to me, but it's all she's asked for. She also still loves dress up, but we have about every dress/ costume I can even think of already
If she likes pretend play we have the melissa and doug grocery store/ lemonade stand that gets daily use. I am looking at the "snacks and sweets" cart for this year
My girls are 10 and 4. My 10yo didn't play with toys very often but loved crafts of any kind. What about colouring books, markers, good pencil crayons, stickers, etc.
DD will be almost 6 by Christmas. She wants animated animals (Pom Pom Panda and Starlight Pony are big on her list). DH found a kid-friendly iPad type device that will probably be her big gift. She's also into Shopkins (shoot me now) and Play Doh. The grandparents are likely going to get her some Play Doh "kits"
6 is still little. I wouldn't worry too much about things being babyish.
rainbow loom
My Little Pony stuff(DD and her friends still play with these, they are 8/9yo 3rd graders)
science experiment kits (but only if you or DH have the time to sit down and do them with her because I've never seen one that they can really do by themselves, but my kids love them)
Barbies or the Princesses that look like barbies
Sport stuff? Soccer ball/goal or dance/gymnastics clothes?
fancy blocks - we have a set like this but I think we got it at Bed Bath and Beyond

DD1 is 5 and really enjoys the Lego Friends collection. She builds the sets and creates a town and then plays with the characters in the buildings.
Crafts are also a big thing. She likes the plush craft sets mentioned above.
She also spends a lot of time concentrating on the Usbourne books Sticker Dolly Dressing books. Our local Learning Express stocks them and there are some on Amazon.

What do you get kids at this age?
My daughter is almost 6.
She likes building type toys (legos, magnets, the suction cup things like Squigz). She also likes craft kits so I've done Kiwi crates as gifts as well. Her grandparents are doing a true 2 wheel scooter since she's too big for the 3 wheeled one we have. I'm mostly getting her some decals for her room, books and maybe some character PJS for the holidays. I'd also consider getting some games if you don't have them. Something like connect 4 would be something the kids could do together.

I feel like I'm the opposite! I always have tons of ideas for my 6 year old, but I feel like my 2 year old doesn't need anything because she can use her older sister's old toys!!
For Christmas this year, we'll probably get the 6 year old: - Books - Dress up clothes (she has a ton, but there are a couple specific ones she wants) - Kid safe knives for when she helps in the kitchen - Lego sets - Craft supplies (for her birthday she got this huge tub of art supplies from Costco, and she was in heaven) - Snap Circuits Jr. - Probably some board games
ETA: Oh, and Magnatiles -- she has two sets, but they're a huge hit in our house. And probably other building toys if they look fun.
I have a 6 year old DD. Her current interests include:
Shopkins Stuffed animals Rainbow Loom Lego Friends Dress up clothes Drawing and other arts and crafts
ETA: And games! She is super into card games right now: Uno, Skipbo, Sleeping Queens, Rat-a-Tat Cat. We also play a lot of Monopoly, Connect 4, Yahtzee, etc.
My girls are 7 and almost 4. They love MLP, Barbies, magnatiles, lego friends, and american Girl stuff. My oldest also loves crafts, nail polish, books, and anything that lets her play school and be the teacher.

DD is 6.
She loves crafts/art supplies and board games. She plays with Lego some.
She also likes to cook, so I've been looking for cooking tools specifically for kids.
She got a scooter for her birthday and will get a bike for Christmas; she would also like a skateboard and/or skates.
She has a tablet, but uses it mostly to watch Youtube. She occasionally plays with an old Leapster Explorer we have, but I wouldn't purchase a new one at her age.
My girls are 3.5 and 6.5 and I am getting them My Little Pony stuff. So far I have gotten 4 ponies for each of them and I just bought them each a MLP mechanical toothbrush. I plan to get one big play set for them to share and they will have their own ponies to prevent arguments.
Shopkins are the other thing they are both excited about so I might get a couple of those but nothing big or expensive.
DD1 is 7. She really loves her 3DS + Pokemon and Mario games, jewelry making kits, any type of crafting supply (Target has a ton of interesting kits and such), board games, puzzles, books, and Calico Critters.
