Only have an answer to #1. We've both loved the name "Ruby" for a girl for ages--even before we decided on whether or not to have kids. I'm hoping for a girl so we can use it!

There's an adorable girl named Ruby in my son's class. There's also a Hazel. Both are names I don't know if DH would have ever gone for if we were having a girl (which we're not) but I kinda love both of them!

I got stuck on a phone call and didn't even get to answer my own questions!
1. We are pretty set on first names. Girl will be Evelyn - it's my grandmother's name and I've wanted to use it for years (I do kind of hate that it's getting more popular though). A boy will be August - that's also a family name, my great grandfather on my dad's side. I didn't know him but I think he was the first generation of our family to be born in the US. We don't have any decisions about middle names.
2. Both of the above are really my choice but if I was picking multiple names without H I would include Cyrus, Ezra, and Satchel for boys. H doesn't like any of those. For girls I also like Clementine and Winifred and Thea (maybe Theodora).
3. My guilty pleasure name for a girl is Prudence. I know it would be made fun of, but I love it! And probably Beau for a boy - I just don't think I'm southern enough to use it but I like it!

I love that name!! Our girl name for this baby was Alice Ruby.
1. This baby will be *** (pdq - I may delete). We were throwing names around before I was even pregnant, and my H said it and we both loved it immediately.
2. Surprisingly, we didn't have any name disagreements. We're both mostly on the same page. We had a harder time thinking of boy names. Neither one of us LOVED the other's choice, but weren't dead set against it either.
3. For a boy, I really like the name Ewan. From what I understand, it's pretty common in the UK but much less so in the US. My H really liked it too, but I don't think we would ever use it. I think some people would have a hard time with it (maybe confuse it with Owen?), and there's a lot of potential for "Ewwww-an" playground taunting. We have a funny last name and there is 0 chance our children won't be teased for it, so I wouldn't want to add more possibilities with the first name.

I LOVE Alice! We considered it since it's my MIL's middle name.

Ruby is very, very sweet!
It's such a good name! I had a whole nursery theme planned with framed pages from Alice in wonderland. Then the baby had to have a penis and now I'm at a loss for a name and nursery haha!
EllenGriswold those are great names!! Would you call the girl Evy or only Evelyn? I haven't heard the name on any kids in DD's classes yet, so hopefully it'll stay that way if you use it!

I think we would stick to Evelyn - but maybe Ev once she got older. H's brother has an Emmeline and they call her Emme (pronounced Emmy) so I'm not sure I would want Evy as well.

Such pretty names!! I love that nickname or no nickname it's pretty and simple and classic. You really can't go wrong! She would love that as she ages too.
ivy I love your girl name! EllenGriswold will you use Gus or Augie or only August? I think it's a great name. Also like ruby sophie223. We are 90% set on Rosalie (Rosie) for a girl. For a boy, I prefer Theodore (Teddy) and DH prefers Harvey. We will see if we can come up with a third option, if not I think I will "win"

I'm pretty in love with Gus! At least for a little one.
And I love Rosalie! I hadn't heard the name in so long but a fb friend used it earlier this year - very pretty! I like Rosemary a lot as well. And I like Theodore! I like your style

I ADORE ruby, but apparently this crazy girl who used to be obsessed with DH and quasi stalked him was named ruby, so it's out. I also love Everett for a girl, with nickname Evie..but some old dude DH knew frome AA was named everett. So it's out too.

I did hear somewhere that you never truly realize how many people you hate until it's time to name your child!

It doesn't help that DH has the soul of a crochety old man, and hates a LOT of folks, lol
I have a ruby this year and she is awesome. Super cute names.
1. We are kind of set for first names Leo for a boy (my grandfathers name) Quinn for a girl. We also like Lucy but it is in 2nd right now.
Middle names are tough. De wants Jeffery ( her brother's name) I like James (my fil's name). I would love to do Phillips which is my maternal grandmothers maiden name. But I don't think I will win this because baby will have my last name and dw will have no family name connection. But she has dna so I think I should win.
Quinn is proving to be a hard one for middle names. We liked Elizabeth but with Quinn sounds like Queen Elizabeth. Also my sister in law is Elizabeth and my sister is Bethany. I do not want to hear from my mother about how e should have chosen sisters name (which I don't like and I don't really like my sister). I do really like Isabel which is my grandmothers middle name. But we have the queen problem with that too but not as bad.
I use dad's first and middle name all the time. Ella Grace. So I think I will use the middle name some for a girl at least.
Thank god dw finally agreed with Leo. She only likes cowboy names which would be strange in an upper middle class predominantly Jewish city just outside of Boston. I like Irish names like Aidan and Liam. I also love the names cooper and Oliver that dw hates. Oh and I love the name Gus. Most boy names are ruined for me after teaching middle school for almost 20 years.

Your girl's name will be our daughter's middle name (after my mum).
1. What names are you and H using? or seriously considering?
PDQ as I will DD but girl is DD + (my middle name which is super uncommon) after my great grandma
Boy name is DD (mn after my grandpa)
2. What names would you use if you didn't have to worry about what your H thought? I love Tessa or Amelia for a girl. Also Anna Rose. I like more names than H so I suggest and he vetos.
3. Any guilty pleasure names that you wouldn't really use but still like? Emmett, Elijah, Elias but they are too close to DS's name.
1. What names are you and H using? or seriously considering?
*poof* I speak French, Portuguese and Spanish, and she'll grow up bilingual at the very least, which is why we need her to have a name that exists in various languages. My name doesn't, and this has always irked me.
I still get a little emotional when thinking about naming this one. Although the circumstances were much more favourable, I found it harder this time to even narrow it down to 2 names. Nothing seemed to compare to Valentina, though I'm hoping that will change when this one's born.
2. What names would you use if you didn't have to worry about what your H thought? We're both on the same page for girls' names, other than the fact that I LOVED the name Georgia and he really wasn't into it. For boys, H likes all sorts of names straight out of the Roman Empire. Augustus, Octavius etc. I blame all the historical fiction he reads. I often joke that if we have a boy, the poor kid will end up being called Gluteus Maximus.
3. Any guilty pleasure names that you wouldn't really use but still like? All the traditional English and Irish names from my family that don't fit into my languages rule: Olive, Alice, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Frances.
We've decide to hold off any more discussion until after the a/s next week since it'll narrow our choices in half and make it much easier on us.
1. We have a list of 4 for girls but the top two are Everly Ann and Anniston Grace. Our boy list is much longer. We'd like to use Carter Douglas but my H idolizes a drummer by the name of Carter so we think it's a little weird and are very much up in the air on a boys name. The middle name for a boy is set since it's after H's late father and I'd love to use Ann somewhere in a girls name. It was my grandmother's middle name. 2. The only one that H doesn't like is my choice for a boy name - Griffin. 3. I don't think so.

I'll probably DD this later too. Sharing names publicly seems like such a big deal for some reason! Probably because I feel like then it's more official, and we're still waffling.
1. We were pretty set on Eliza two months ago. And now I'm pretty set on Hazel, and I think DH likes it too. But I'm worried that it's becoming too popular. Apparently my ideal name is familiar enough so there's no spelling, gender, or pronunciation confusion, but also, no one else is allowed to have it. Funny how this is apparently impossible to find.
Like I said in the other thread, we're totally stuck on what to do about a middle name.
2. Maybe Ivy or Fiona.
3. So many. We joked about calling the baby "A Fetus Names Wanda" for a while, and the truth is, I really like the name Wanda.
1. I'm way too early in the pregnancy to have these convos with dh. However, that doesn't stop me from making note of names I love! Girl: June Hazel Magnolia Genevieve Alice
Boy: I would like to either incorporate the name walker or John. Both are family names on my side.
2. I know dh didn't love Genevieve or magnolia last time... So we will see what he says. He has definite opinions.
3. I love clementine and and a million other girl names dh can't stand. We have never found a boy name that speaks to us. Thankfully dd was a girl.
