I grew up in Girl Scouts. I joined at 5y/o and was in the same troop until HS graduation. My GS leaders were like my second moms and still are to this day. The girls in my troop were the nearest thing I had to sisters. We're all FB friends but naturally some of us talk more than others and some of us see each other more than others.
Well one of the girls from my troop is suffering from an awful disease that has left her severely disabled. She has no family to help her and has had a really rough time of it.
I decided she needed something to lift her spirits and because she says that GS was the best thing about her childhood I reached out to all our troop members and suggested we do a group gift of some sorts.
In the end people decided to just paypal me $ so I could take our friend on a shopping spree. So far they have sent me $675 and another four people have mailed me checks, which amounts I don't know. I'm guessing in the end I'll have about $1,000 give our friend.
I'm so truly touched by how awesome these women are and am reminded yet again how lucky I am to know them.
So that's my AW of my friends I can not wait to see the look on my friend's face tomorrow when I present her with the group gift.
You definitely have to take pictures of her shopping. And let us know what she ends up getting!
I grew up in Girl Scouts, too. The camp L and I met at is having a reunion Labor Day weekend, and I can't wait to take the girls to meet more of our second family. It was several of those people who helped us renovate our house to get ready for the girls, and have embraced them in a way that I couldn't imagine. They are some powerful bonds.
We sang a song at our camp with the lyrics, "Sisters for the summer, that's what the children say. But little do they know when they go away, our friendships will never fade. So, when you're down I'll build you up, and when you're up I'll laugh with you."
