She rolled over for the first time last night, I was so excited!
Then she decided to roll over in her crib while she was sleeping. I try to balance on the thin line between being a responsible parent and being the crazy paranoid parent. I laid awake at three in the morning, thinking...do I go in there and put her on her back or let her sleep. Somehow laying there staring at the monitor was a working alternative for me until she started fidgeting an hour later...I think she was mad in her sleep that she couldn't flip back over. So in I went and put her on her back. Around five, you guessed it, sleeping on her stomach again. She started fidgeting again so in I went and she was awake this time...and of course saw me and PARTY time!
Sooo, what do/did you do about the whole stomach/back sleeping once they could roll onto their stomachs?
And yes, I'm a monitor checking fool. I sleep for crap, so everytime I toss or turn I look at her.
Aww congrats on a roller! Although that usually leads to other bad things like crawling and then they only want you when they get hurt . JK. It's so fun to watch all the fun things they do! I'm a monitor stalker too and I'm always worried about protecting her irrational things like strange cars and nonexistent storms, but if she will sleep on her stomach by god I'm going to let her. As soon as she could raise her head and had neck control, and especially when she could roll on both sides I was perfectly fine with it. She's never really been a good sleeper, I'll take what I can get
I've been told that it's your job to put them to sleep on their backs, but beyond that, there's not much you can do. It doesn't help anybody if you stay awake all night just to flip her over!
The rolling kind of sucks over here. Ellie started rolling over almost 2 months ago now, back to belly. She will often end up on her belly when she sleeps. The problem is that she STILL does not know how to roll back the other way, and she hates being on her tummy. If she ends up there while she's really in a deep sleep we're fine until she wakes up, but when she does wake up, she will be PISSED and it's super hard to get her back to sleep. She also used to wake up early in the mornings (around 5:00), scootch around for a bit and put herself back to sleep. That is no more, because the scootching inevitably leads to rolling over, and then she's mad. And awake. So, yeah. We wake up a lot more during the night and a lot earlier in the mornings now! Hopefully yours will figure it out faster than mine is.
Also, I sort of feel you on the monitor checking. We don't have a monitor (her crib is in our bedroom) but I can see her from the bed so every time I wake up in the night I used to look over at her. Now that she started rolling though we put up a bumper and I can't see her anymore. Drives me nuts!

I just read the other day that belly to back us much easier because that don't need as much neck strength. D will roll belly to back a lot because he hates tummy time. He is no where near back to belly though!
Thanks ladies! It's a tough adjustment from having a "sleep through the night" baby to an "I rolled onto my stomach I can't roll back and I'm pissed off" baby, that's for sure. I was so damn exhausted last night I went to bed at 9:30 and it felt like Midnight. I sure do hope she learns how to roll tummy to back soon! I feel for you ladies whose little ones don't sleep! Sara, I don't know how you function, poor thing!
