Anyone see this week's Modern Family where they leashed Lily? I was not laughing, because that is my life. My kid's a runner. One of my biggest pet peeves is people getting all judgey about leashes. Until you have felt the stomach fear when your kid runs into the street, near water, while you are holding groceries, or nursing your newborn- you can stfu.
The damn thing doesn't even work on my kid - she just goes limp and howls. But I wish to god it did, and I would never look down on anyone else for using them.

My cat does the same thing when I try to put a leash on her.
I think the ones that are little stuffed animal backpacks are kind of cute. I'd get one if I had a runner.
We have to leash my niece, you can't hold that girl still. Fortunately to her it's a game. She loves her doggy "pack pack" and enjoys running until she runs out of slack and falling over. But seriously, she needs a leash. It keeps us all sane, she gets to walk, and we don't lose her.
This was our first trial with the leash (in our backyard, which is why I was okay with my kid not wearing pants). He wasn't a fan. Thankfully he got used to it and likes it now, because he is FAST and it's scary how quickly he can dart off. He has so much energy that I don't want to force him to sit in a stroller when the leash allows him to walk around and helps me keep him safe.

We have one, but I've never used it although I probably should have. It's a hippo backpack. We were at the state fair last year and there were some dancing robots. DD is petrified of robots and ran for her dear life. Luckily I was able to catch her, but she is fast and it was very crowded.

I work at a store where parents seem to think it's ok to let there small children wonder off. I greatly appreciate child leashes and I think you're a worse parent for letting you 2 or 3 yr old run free and get lost. We find kids that the parents are not even looking for.

I'm a huge leash advocate. Between 18-24months, I used the cute teddy bear one on my son. He loved it, and I knew that if he darted off the sidewalk onto the street, he wouldn't get hit. People think you can just hold a hand, but his hand would get sweaty, and he would slip it out in a split second and run. It's pretty terrifying.

My cat does this too! We call it the "shame collar."

Ha! She did the same thing when I tried to make her wear her Christmas sweater..and her cheerleading costume. I learned my lesson and stopped buying the cat clothes.
I have twin boys. They aren't walking yet, but I have every intention of getting backpack leashes when they are. I am not chasing after two kids out in public!

I think that cats on leashes are much funnier than children on leashes. There is a super-old lady who lives down the street from me that wears a wig, sits in a lawn chair in her front yard and hold her cat on a leash while people watching.

I love that episode. I told dh that the leash thing was always a heated debate on the boards. We didn't do it with our older two, but I'm not against it if we need one for our youngest.

The funniest things turn into the most heated debates. And for the love of all things holy, never speak of the Bumbo chair.

The Bumbo chair is always a debate on TB. There were at least 2 on our board, but on TB in general it's a hot topic. I'll try to find the thread from our board.
Anything that starts with "I will never" in relation to raising kids, I laugh at. I just sit back and think "Just wait until you're in that situation".
I'm lucky- DS isn't a runner and I've never needed to use a leash, but never ever would I judge a parent for using one.
I had two 2 year olds and a newborn. I went to the mall with my mother and sister right after my youngest was born. We went to get pictures for my parents with my 4 and my sister's one. Mine were 8, 2, 2, and 3 months. Her daughter was 9 months. My sister made fun of me when I opened up the backpack leashes until one of my kids trying running out of the store. Now her oldest is 5 and her younger daughter is 15 months old. She's due with number 3 in August and she's going to be using one that I have still in a box.
