I had a couple but I had to because of my sons condition. I wasn't ever impressed with the 3D u/s that we had because E never cooperated and let us get good photos.
We did one. I needed an emotional lift after some things that happened. Our anatomy scan did include 3D. I think it was around $150 as well. DS wouldn't move his arms from his face. She sent me to walk up and down the stairs for a bit but it didn't have any effect on his positionHe was that way most of the time. They ended up offering a second one if I wanted since there weren't great images for $50, but it was a bit of a haul to get there. I ended up having weekly BPPs the last month or so of my pregnancy and his hands were always in from of his face in those as well.

I had one but it was still my standard anatomy scan. I would do it if you want. I have heard 36 weeks is the best time because the baby has some fat but is not all squished.

I never paid for one; my OB's office would always switch the 3D/4D on at the end of each sono appt for me. For various reasons, I ended up having to have a lot of sonograms done with DD2 so I have a ton of 3D sono pics of her.
Honestly, I'm not sure that I'd spend $150 on an elective sono. I'd much rather put that money toward pics of the baby after she's born.

We did and they turned out pretty good. I went to Ultrasona in Columbus up by Polaris. www.ultrasonacolumbus.com We went during a weekday and got a discount for that. I think it was a little over $100 for 30 minutes, but it has been over 3 years ago. They had a big screen and a couple of couches. We brought the grandparents. We had a dvd, cd with pictures, and a VHS. Now that I'm typing this out it seems ridiculous. Especially since we just wanted an u/s so we could find out the sex before Christmas.
We did them for our first two. They were around $100 and to me totally worth the fun of it. At 20 wks are pretty creepy but later on they look so much like them. It was funny to see them nibbling toes, sticking out their tongue and whatever else they were doing in there. (I would drink a little OJ before going in to get them hyped up)
My new OB doesn't offer them on-site so I may have to find one. I feel bad not having the same for all 3.
We did one and i am glad we did. The only downfall was that she had flipped and her head was behind the placenta, so her face is distorted in many of the pictures. The good pics were worth it. She looked exactly like those.

They were standard at my OB's office as well. I'm not sure I'd pay for because a lot of times for them to be good the baby has to be in the perfect position. I wouldn't want to shell out the money and then get a crappy picture. FWIW I had an US at 34 weeks and they couldn't get a good picture at all because of the way he was positioned and really wasn't moving too much at that point.

I agree. While I liked looking at my ultrasound pics I LOVE his newborn pics.
ETA: I only had ultrasounds at 8, 12 & 20 weeks which were standard at my OB & covered by my insurance. I didn't get do any electives.
We did and it was awesome. The biggest reason was bc even though the tech told us it was a girl, she wasnt cooperating and we didn't really get a good money shot. I had to have to confirmed. We got great pics and it was so relaxing. We were there for fun - no worries about the health factor. I think it was $117 but we got a discount bc their machine Broke and they rescheduled the appointment. I only got the 20 week ultrasound as well.
By the time I asked about it they said I missed my window b/c the babies would be too squished and the pictures would not be clear/good. But with twins I had an ultrasound every four weeks for growth scans so I was able to "see" them a lot and have some great pictures.
If I only had one or two ultrasounds the whole pregnancy then I would totally justify the expense :-)
I'm not doing one. I thought about doing one when I'm in Chicago so my mom could see the baby, because I saw a Groupon, but they don't do them until 24w and I'll be 23 when I'm up there.
Also, they flipped on the 3D at the u/s after my car accident and the baby looked like Voldemort, so I am not so much excited about 3D generally.
I did an early gender scan and the pictures from that turned out horrible (both the 2D & 3D). Thankfully the A/S pictures were much better, taken just a few days later. (Don't judge - I wanted to know the sex for Mother's Day!)
The elective U/S place said the best 3D images are between 26-32 weeks, 28-30 is optimal.
I have no shame, we did it around 33wks or something. We had all of the grandparents there plus SIL since none of them ever saw an u/s. I thought it was pretty cool and I am glad we paid for it. FIL still talks about it a year later and said it's one of his favorite memories.
Btw, the later you do it the less alien your baby looks. Lol. DS looked exactly like the 3D u/s. I was impressed!
Do it if you want also! But as the PP have said, i would wait until a bit later. I've seen some where they did it early on and it just looked weird to me. But the later ones didn't look so alienish -- now of course, if it was my own child, i'd probably think they were the best pics ever. Lol.

I thought they were creepy and didn't want to fork out the money for one. One time the tech was mentoring a student and asked me if I would be okay if the student did a little bit of practice on me. Happy to see my baby for a little longer, I agreed. She did some 3-D images as well as the regular measurements.
We thought the images looked just like H and when DS was born a few weeks later we were really surprised at just how much he looked like H.
I agree with PPs. If you want to do it and can afford it, go for it. Also, wait until later in your pregnancy, the pics will look less freaky, IMO.
