Does anyone know of Thanksgiving books that are a little more balanced? A bit about the Native Americans as being in America first and leading actual lives?
I dig my child's teachers 99% of the time but the first grader came home talking about how heroic the Pilgrims were and asked hopefully if any of his (Asian) Indian ancestors were helpers at the Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving party.
The People Shall Continue - Starts with their stories of creation and moves through the time when their lands were stolen from them by the Europeans.
First Americans series (this links to The Nez Perce, but there are many others)- Talks about the different tribes, their stories of creation, their culture/housing/clothing/etc, what happened when Europeans came over, where they are today, etc.
