I found out my ancestry.

I almost didn't open the report because I was so nervous!  Background: my mom is adopted and has never had any interest in finding out her biological parents etc.  I have always been curious about my heritage, so I ordered a kit from 23 & Me.  You spit in a test tube, mail it off, and a few days later you get the results.

My mother always claimed to be 100% Italian and my dad told us he is German and English.  Yeah, I am a bunch of stuff!

26% British and Irish - I used to always say that I hated St. Patty's day since I am not Irish.  Uh, who wants to drink green beer with me next year?  
20% French and German 
8% Italian
I am also Balkan, Scandinavian, Iberian, and Jewish!  I think it is so neat to finally know who I am on that level.

My mom doesn't know that I did this and I am not going to tell her.  She has so much pride and really relates to the "Italian" culture that I don't want to burst her bubble.

If you click a button, you can also see if you have any relatives that have also participated.  I have a 2nd cousin out there, so I have to ask my dad if he knows who it is.  If not, I found my mom's biological family.  YIKES!

It is so neat!  I am going to call my dad tomorrow to see if it is one of his cousins children.  Yeah, mom is NOT going to know about this one.

That's really cool! I'd be interested to do that too. I always say I'm German, but the region where my family lived was Poland before the war. (or something like that)

Very neat! I'm glad you got some history, but sad that you can't share it with your mother.
