I put up with the hassle because I don't think they are safe. Several years back I had read that a university tried to duplicate the study that TSA used to claim that they are safe and could not come up with the same results.
No. TSA pre-check means regular metal detectors for me. Before I had pre-check, I would get the patdown even though it was a total hassle. My way of fighting the man :....(
I've been opting for the pat down while pregnant. Outside of that, I don't like the scanners but I don't have the commitment to arriving early enough to avoid them.
I actually prefer the scanners. I hate the metal detectors because my bra always seems to set them off. I don't think either option is great but I prefer the option where I don't get felt up.
I usually only fly a couple of times a year, but I've always done the scanners. I did get a pat down once because I failed the scanner - lol. It took forever for the same reason you mentioned - they needed to wait for someone to come - and it was just a hassle. The scanner takes 10 seconds and then you're done.
What is the safety concern? Radiation? I guess I figure it's SO quick and I'm exposed so infrequently that I'm not going to worry about it. If you fly a ton that might be more concerning.
Flammable? I don't really care if they save my image. I mean what are they going to do with it? I think I'm a little weird when it comes to privacy stuff but I figure realistically nothing bad is going to happen to me if they have a scanned image of me.

I used to go through it while pregnant. It never bothered me. Now we have global entry and it is awesome! Yes I'd get to skip it because of DD, but global entry saves me so much time. I don't think we'll ever go back to not having that status.
Hmm, adding this to the reasons I should stop being cheap and just get global entry already. Except it's a lot less useful now since I don't currently live in the U.S. I haven't done the equivalent UK Registered Traveler yet either because they charge you £20 to transfer it to a new passport and I will have to renew mine early next year so I'm waiting to do that first.
Also keep in mind only US airlines can offer pre-check so if you fly British you wouldn't get it (but if you fly American you would).

Not while pregnant. I do at other times now I am not travelling all the time. I'm very happy to see that others don't because I always feel like the only one when I refuse. I've had a bit of attitude before (in Orlando) but a few weeks ago I went through Houston and the pat down lady was so nice. She said that it's actually more important to avoid the Xray where your luggage goes than the bodyscan as it is powerful. She said she always cringes when people reach up there to get their purses.
This is my hill to die on. It's not even the safety aspect, it is that I think the entire thing is a scam concocted by lobbyists, does shit to keep us safe, and is an enormous violation of my rights and liberties.
I have only done it once, and it was because I had the shingles and physically could not deal with someone touching me. It still angers me to this day that I was forced into that decision. I feel violated by it. And it just reminds me of all the other Americans whose physical conditions deny them a choice and force them to undergo invasive or dangerous inspections that are more ineffective than metal detectors while Michael Chertoff is laughing in the way to the bank.
I do sometimes lie and say I'm pregnant so I can go through the metal detector.
I have thought about doing this after a European security agent told me that's the only reason they accept for not going through the full body scanner.
19 times out of 20 I go through a metal detector instead of the scanner because that's where pre-check gets me.
But I have no qualms about going through the scanners. If they want to save the scans of me -- and everyone else who flies every day -- I doubt they'll be able to make much use of mine individually. I really don't care about my data being compiled when I'll just be a blip among many millions of people.

I just go through them although I have been tempted by GE/pre-check a few times. AMEX got me excited when they said that the fee was covered with a platinum card but it turns out the Delta version was excluded.

The concern is more the violation of your constitutional right against unreasonable search. And the whole security theater thing.
I don't remember seeing her thoughts on it but I can guess
we've had quite a few chats about it. She's very passionate
Given her stance on the proboards ts & cs (well, and that she actually took the time to read the ts & cs and form an opinion), I am not surprised to read this
For better or worse, I choose to take a "ain't nobody got time for that" view of these things. If that means that some TSA person I'll never meet is having a field day with a vague scan of my body that isn't connected to my face or name, so be it. At least I don't have to show up early to fight for a pat down!
ETA: I do think the practice is stupid and should change, but I can put up with stupidity if it saves me time and isn't hurting me.
