Am I the only one who has noticed that TSA seems to be getting more lax about the whole thing anyway? It seems that more and more airports allow everyone to walk through with shoes on and put people through the pre-check lines who don't have pre-check. I wonder if that's a sign of future policy changes.
H has been carrying full sized toiletries through for the last year or so. I just noticed him doing in on his last work trip and he said he's never had anything taken away.
I had a TSA pull a brand new (just over 3 oz) bottle from my bag. I screamed something eloquent like "But but but THATS VERY EXPENSIVE". I got to keep it. Rightly so.
I get to go through the regular metal detectors because I have TSA precheck. I also don't have to take off my shoes or wait in long lines. Best $80 I've ever spent.
This thread reminds me that I need to go ahead and get precheck already. Lazy.
On the OP, I do the scanners most of tye time because I am less bothered by the idea of pictures of my naked body than by being groped by a stranger. But, I hate that the choice is so shitty and that we're wasting so much time and money on unproven systems.
I'd like to apologize for being an ass in this thread.
This topic makes me incredibly salty, and I was projecting based on some heated in-real-life arguments I've had with people who just don't get why the scanners (and the pat downs) are both intrusive and overreaching. I have neither the time, money, or mad lawyering skills to fight this on a broader scale, so the only way I can protest is by opting out of the scanners at the airports.
I realize I came off a bit intense and ridiculous, and I'm sorry (and embarrassed) for basically having an obnoxious temper tantrum.

it can actually be 3.3 oz because internationally that is 100mL which is how 99% of the world measures

I do. But I tend to think a majority of the "security" TSA does is a waste so I just try to get through it as quickly as possible.
It is one of DH's hills to die on though. Libertarian "Privacy" hill.
I'm still pissed about the time I had to travel with a severely sprained ankle. They wouldn't let me sit down on a chair to take my shoes off (and sitting on the floor would have meant I couldn't get up without help), made me go through the metal detector even though I told them my ankle wrap was secured with metal, and seemed irked when it did, indeed, trigger the machine and they had to wand me/do the pat down. I've been flying for ~40 years, I know what will set the machine off, idiots.
