Ok, I got this gorgeous floral dress for my cocktail gala that I'm going to Thursday. It's a big event, at the Ritz with famous guests, and is put on by the fashion professional organization of which I'm on the board of directors.
Besides the dress I don't want to buy anything new, so working with what I have. But if you have an idea I don't post, share it anyway I might have something.
First, here's the dress - deciding if I want to belt it?
ditto. and maybe no necklace, what about great earrings OR a cool headband/fascinator type thing?
The only good headband/fascinator I have is from my wedding and wouldn't work with this dress. I like that idea though. I might be able to put something together with some tulle I have around here... we'll see.
Anyway, I like the purple or gold shoes, but I'd prefer a black patent belt. Do you have one?
I'd skip the necklace. The black gets lost with the pattern on the dress, and the other one takes away from the pattern. Do you have a big cuff bracelet you could wear?
BTW - how are you and how is the baby? I've been MIA for the last 10 months minus a couple of pop-ins here and there.

Thanks! The dress is by Taylor - but it does kinda remind me of Ted Baker. I don't have a skinny black belt, but I'm sure I could pick that up at Target easily.
I have this great black leather cuff with laser cut flowers - that actually would work great.
Doing well and baby E is great, thank you! It's been such a whirlwind the past few months, she'll be 4 months old next week and I'm in awe. How are you??
Your little one is so cute. Look at all that hair too!
Things are good. Lots of changes for me. We moved to be near family. My little one is finally getting a bit easier, which is why I'm revisiting this place again. Time flies!
I also have black pointy toe pumps. That could be an option. I think a color would be fun though, especially for the event. If it were a wedding or something more toned down I think black with black tights makes sense. I'm between the blue booties or the purple heels now.
I think I'll skip the necklace, you guys are right it takes away from the print.

I think the blue booties are edgier, which I think works for that kind of event in Chicago. The purple ones, while cute, could easily be worn for a wedding also.

Yeah you're right. And funny because I did buy the purple shoes for a wedding!

Black cuff, blue booties, no necklace, or earrings. Use a fun clutch instead. Don't over-style. Play with your makeup and hair. Don't let earrings get lost in your hair or a necklace in your dress. Do a fun lip that plays off the dress since it's on trend. Don't over-style for the carpet. Those always stands out in photos. Sometimes less can be more.
