I got super lucky, and got to spend my 21st Birthday in China. It was amazing that the friends I was traveling with remembered and sang "Happy B-day" to me when we got to the Great Wall.
Otherwise, I don't really celebrate it that much. The last few years I took myself to the beach and ate my weight in salt-water toffee.
My 17th birthday stands out. My parents had a surprise party for me and my best friends distracted me until the party. They said they were surprising me and blindfolded me and drove me to the party. It was a lot of fun.

How about the one where I got married? Yes, I happen to have a birthday on the only federal holiday in the fall, and we needed to plan for a wedding on a 3 day weekend, and it just so happened my bday was a Saturday that year.
But that also means I have an excuse for an awesome birthdaversary celebration. We went to Maui last year
My 18th was pretty awesome. My mom arranged for me to go to a spa with my 2 bffs all day. That's the benefit to a holiday bday. Never went to school

I haven't really done anything much for my birthday the last few years either. Last year, I took myself to the beach and spent the day on my own because H had to work. This year I worked all day. I sometimes miss the days when it was a bigger deal.

My 21st was really fun and not just because of the obvious reason. My friends went all out for me, we had a costume party since my birthday is 2 days before Halloween. All my closest friends were there, we stayed up all night dancing. I just remember feeling really happy and loved.
Sweet 16, 21, 23, and this summer when I turned 28.
All for different reasons but this year I went home and celebrated the night before with my husband (he was on leave after getting back from his deployment) and all of my friends came out. It was wonderful. The actual day of my birthday we drove down to BWI and took a Space A flight to Germany.

Hmm, 21 was pretty fun! Probably 28. I had brand new babies (they were born exactly 3 months before my 28th birthday) and we were out of the nb haze. Loving life!

16- My parents took me and my BFF to go back to school shopping and sightseeing in NYC. I danced in Ellie's Stardust Diner and they took me out on Broadway, so I could always say I had danced on broadway ( I was on dance team in HS) saw Chicago and loved every second of it.
21- my husband made a huge deal of it and sent gifts all day. It was precious, especially since I was pregnant and feeling kind of "eh" about it.
My 16th birthday my parents threw me a surprise party. I went out on a date with my then boyfriend and when he took me home my parents had transformed the backyard into a party, complete with a dance floor. They had each person write a note and attach it to a flower, and when I went up to my room at the end of the night there were bouquets of flowers with notes attached to me.
My 14th birthday, 21st birthday and my 24th birthday stand out for me. When I was in school, I always had my birthday during Spring Break, so I never had to go to school. On my 14th birthday, I went on a ski trip with my school Science Club for spring break, and it was awesome. We arrived in Colorado on my actual birthday.
For my 21st birthday, I went on a ski trip with some friends in the co-ed pre-law fraternity I was pledging. They went out and bought a bunch of liquor and we all got smashed. It was a lot of fun and definitely memorable. Sadly, I don't talk to any of them anymore, but I had an awesome birthday because of them.
I had to work on my 24th birthday, and was really bummed about it, and had a bad day at work that day. I ended up getting off early. I called H (I was dating him at the time), and vented to him about it and he listened. I pulled up in my driveway and saw his car in the driveway, and saw lights on in the house. I thought my roommates were out, and got really suspicious. Turns out they, H, and another one of my friends put together a mini-surprise party for me. We stayed up watching scary movies (my birthday was Friday the 13th), and it was awesome. Made my day.
