We are leaving USAA after some poor customer service experiences and also a 50% rate increase. DH had an accident in July and I've run a couple other quotes and disclosed the accident and the rates are higher, just not 50% more than our current premium. Even after my 3 speeding tickets and an accident many years ago our rates didn't increase 50%. There have been no state-wide rate increases since our premium last renewed in July from what I can tell.
We have had State Farm in the past and they were fine on the homeowner's insurance but the auto increases were out of control, even after taking into consideration the state rate increases. Any other companies you recommend?
We have American National (ANPAC) for home, auto, and life. I'm not sure where they will be rate wise for you but their customer service has always been top notch for us. We had a fire claim on our homeowners and they were honestly a dream to deal with. I only had to make one (crying) phone call and they took care of everything.
We have Geico for auto and Traveler's for home. They must be the same company (or somehow related) because we get the discount for having them both.
ETA: Once we close on the house, we are probably going to switch to Erie Insurance. They are an east coast company and cover as far south as NC. Had them growing up, my parents each still use them.
We have State Farm for both home and auto, but I confess that we've never shopped around for prices. H had the same insurance rep for his car forever, and I just added my car when I moved here then eventually the house. Anyone recommend a company specifically for Michigan? I know our auto insurance rates are higher than a lot of states.

I've been very happy with Progressive's auto insurance. I have only had one claim, but it was handled ridiculously well and quickly. Rates are good and I have been a customer for many years, so my rates didn't increase at all even with the accident.
I'd love to have them for homeowners as well, but their rates are double what we pay for half the coverage. We have a regional insurance company through a local broker. All the major insurers are way more money for comparable coverage, even with their bundle discounts.

I forgot about them and one of our friends is an adjuster for them. Thanks!

We just switched to Amica after buying our house (they had the best rates for homeowners and comparable rates for car). Before that, we had Allstate for car and renter's. They were great!
2nd to USAA, I've had a good experience with Amica.
No matter what company you go with...make sure you compare apples to apples. When I was shopping around I would put specific coverage request online and since they couldn't beat my current price they automatically lowered the coverage to make the premium look better.

Honestly, I don't care to. We were debating dropping them after DH was treated extremely poorly, but this is the icing on the cake. The quote I ran for Progressive had better coverage, lower deductibles and still was $600 cheaper than what we pay now for 6 months.

We have had State Farm since I was 18. I've never had a rate increase of more than $1 or $2. I've only shopped around once and the rates came back comparable, so I stayed with SF because of my longevity and satisfaction with the handful of claims. We've never had tickets, though. And only one mutual fault accident, so maybe that's a contributing factor in why I haven't seen rate increases?
We have State Farm and have been very happy with it (including claims handling) but we're looking to change right now because premiums went way up this year (I'm sure in no small part because we're now insuring a car that is worth more than $0, but I got a bunch of quotes and rates seem way higher than competitors').
I'm looking at Geico because my parents have been very happy with it (including claims handling) and the auto rates are good, but I'm balking because their renter's insurance quote was way higher than Progressive, Liberty Mutual, et. niq -- do I have to call for the shareholder discount? I hate calling people But I swear I didn't see that option when I got an online quote. It would be nice to get something out of my BHK.B stock besides losses...
womet -- interesting that there's a multi-line discount there because they definitely aren't the same company. Geico is Berkshire Hathaway and Travelers is its own behemoth. Maybe some agency relationship based on what Geico can't/doesn't write?

Yeah, they must have a relationship then since they aren't the same company.
