Yes, I love turkey trots. When my family gets together we usually all do it together, well we at least start together.
You should find a cheaper one to do, there are only about a million around here
I know! They all seem to be in VA and DC. I can only find one in MoCo. It's weird. I don't mind driving for a race, but we're going to VA for Thanksgiving dinner, and I really don't want to drive back and forth twice in a few hours.

It's true. The MD selection is slim. There are more races on any given Saturday or Sunday.
Not an official race, but my trail group is doing a group run at 6am on Thanksgiving. It will be painful to get up that early, but we need to hit the road by 10:30 for the IL's house, so it works. I'm also looking forward to watching the sun come up at the park that day.
I'm just running on my own since I teach a thankful flow that morning. I never get home in time if I run one plus I like to get in a good LONG run so I can eat a lot lol
This! The promise of extra pie will help me get up at the crack of dawn, lol.
I registered for one last week. This Turkey Trot was my first official race. Sadly there is no medal and I almost didn't sign up because of that but I did since my SIL is running it again with me this year. Or more like we'll be at the start line together and then she will pull ahead of me pretty quickly. I made sure to pawn off all cooking duties to my younger sisters after scheming with my mom. We were playing a joke on them that since bot me and my mom have hosted in the past they would have to. It sent them in a tizzy but it worked so I can run my heart out that morning!!

And what is up with all these 5k's costing $45-$50? I'm seeing it more and more often.
I get they are trying to attract a broader audience with goodies like "premium" shirts and finisher medals. However, it has just the opposite effect for me. Hell to the no will I be bringing my whole family run at that price.
It's going to be a game time decision. It's going to be like 18 degrees or something at the start. I'm not ready for this shit. I really don't want to do it.
We're still debating our local half. I want to, but I'm debating if it's worth the hassle. We're hosting & we'll have 6 people staying with us. I'm tempted to just make an overnight breakfast casserole, tell them to throw it in the oven when they wake up, then I'll start dinner when we get home. I need to discuss with DH.
That is my plan. I say do it. Minus people staying with us.
clseale - you are crazy. If I was hosting I doubt I would even consider a 5K. And you're looking at a half thinking it's NBD. I know it's because you're amazing, but also remember you just ran a brutal, hot nearly marathon.
This post has me thinking. If my H can be convinced to slow jog a turkey trot with me this year I would love that. I'll have to scheme & see if it can fit into our plans that day.
You can always join us, but you'll have to run a lot slower than you did on Saturday

This is crazy and so strange. Why does MoCo hate Turkey Trots?

Going to do a 5k turkey trot! I'm going to run as much as I can with the double Bob and walk when needed. I haven't had time since delivery to get fully back up to 5k running distance.

I love Frederick. The half there was my first and it's still my favorite race. The Trot is around baker park (though the course is slightly different this year thanks to construction I think). I did it once a few years ago (was in Roanoke for the last few years)... If I remember correctly, you loop around the park, through a neighborhood and back to the start line. Relatively flat- I don't remember anything too bad about it!

I usually try to do one, but this year we are going to be home, so I think I'm going to pass. There's a free 5K in a close neighborhood that I might do. Does that even count?

We're doing one in my DH's hometown. Turkey Trots are the only races DH will do with me. Doing it is kind of a no-brainer - the start is a block from my in-laws' house, we can stay inside until the start (because it is usually either in the teens or snowing when we've run it), and I can get an extra piece of pie that night . It will be extra fun this year because my SIL is home from Africa, and wants to run it with us.

Lack of options must be why the Bethesda one is so huge. There were 3500 finishers last year. I feel like that's big for a turkey trot.

eta: I'm running a 4.5 mile race.
We're 99.9% sure that we'll do it. There's also a 6k option, but I want nothing to do with that nonsense. A 5k with an extra 1k of pain?? I do not foresee myself being very thankful about that fuckery.

We are out of town for T-Day this year, but we found a 5k this Saturday that is associated with the football game we are going to (so not a Turkey Trot but a race). We just signed up. It's going to be a lot of fun except that we will have landed less than 12 hours before the race. Good it's only a 5k but I am not a sprinter so it could be interesting.
I wasn't going to because I should have been doing an IUI on thanksgiving, but my period is missing (first time in 17 years I am late and not pregnant) so my IUI is obviously pushed back. I am torn because I JUST WANT TO START TREATMENTS AGAIN and also really happy I will be running the 5K for the 5th year in a row. It is one of my favorites.

Ha! You are my people. I can't think of a better way to describe a 6k.

Yes! We paid $45 for the 5k we are doing and the price was a big reason we almost didn't. Is the shirt made out of panda??? We do know that part of the $$$ is going back to the university, but damn.
