my child usually goes down well and used to sleep right through with no issue. Then we went away and she got a bit of a cold and it all went out the window. She still goes down well most of the time but she wakes up after an hour, another hour, another 30 minutes and then sleeps until 5am, her normal pre-awake feeding.
She seems to have no reason to wake up. Last couple nights, she had gas, sometimes she just wants a soothing "shhhh" and sometimes she takes a sip of water. We only take her out of the crib if she is freaking or standing up. Pretty rarely. Normally it takes 2 minutes and she is back to sleep.
I should let her cry, right? It will just be a few nights, right?
Then after this settles down we will maybe try to eliminate the 5 am feeding.
At her age, I would let her cry for a little while (length of time has to be determined by you). My rule of thumb for CIO (which admittedly, we don't have to do often), is if it is whimper crying, starting and stopping, and does not escalate, we let her go for up to 20 minutes (we've maybe had to do that twice, she usually falls asleep within 5). If it starts to escalate at any point, I go in, pick her up, try to get a good burp out of her, and put her back down. She may whimper for 5 more minutes, but we've never had her go longer than that.
I let DD cry as long as it's just a whiny cry, not panicked screaming. I always regret it when I cave and go into her room because then she thinks it's play time and the crying starts all over again when I try to leave. She can cry for a long time, though, so it's rare that I don't end up going in to soothe her at least once.

Okay, first time worked. She cried for 2 minutes tops and rolled right over. I think it is gas or just her being annoyed at waking up. Yay for sleeping
Same as above. I let her CIO around seven to eight months. I let her whine cry, but went in when it escalated. It only escalated once. The rest of the crying was really short.
