as a diaper.
We drove about 3 hours to see my grandma today. We stopped after about an hour so I could nurse the baby and to give DS1 a chance to stretch his legs. His shorts were soaked. DH put him in a pull up even though he is not too good about going on the potty yet. DS is a super pee-er, but this was ridiculous. He was only wearing it for 2 - 2 1/2 hours. At first I thought he put him in a swim diaper by mistake.
Good thing I brought several changes of clothes for our little day trip.

Some brands are better than others. We stick to the Pampers Easy Ups because a friend gave me a half a pack and they worked, and I'm scared to try other ones :-)
Some of them are like swim diapers -- the same friend had her daughter at a movie theater and the girl peed and the pull up didn't hold a thing -- pee everywhere!!
I thougt pull-ups were only meant to be used as back-ups? I don't know. I only used them in case of an emergency when DD was PTing. They never soaked through, but then, she tried really, really hard to hold in her pee until we were off the subway/bus/whatever and within reach of a bathroom.
3 hours??? that's not right - i mean, something was not right about the pullup... what brand? We use pullups on my twins (well, only one of them now- the other is totally PT'd)... and they can go many hours. We use Huggies brand, sometimes pampers brand. The only time they leak is overnight if we use a regular one (and not an overnight one).
If we're going to be out for a long day/drive- we'll put an overnight one on... but still- have NEVER had a leak after just 3 hours.
I have found Pampers to be the best, but even they failed twice yesterday. DS must be a super peer because both diapers and pull ups routinely fail after one or two pees with him. We have been working on PTing for a while now but he just doesn't have any interest. Even to the grocery store I have to make sure we have a back up outfit.
